It's really not a question of whether it's too much for a woman, it's a question of training and proper technique. There's really nothing about a woman that makes them less inherently capable of handling a given firearm compared to a random man. With training and practice (which I sure as hell...
I bought my fiance an SPS Tac in .308. She loves it. The stock is kind of floppy, so it'll get swapped out for something a little nicer, and the X Mark trigger is crap. If you adjust it much below 3.5# it will eat itself up. They're fine above 3.5# but they're just heavy.
How about something like a Remington 700 SPS Tactical? It's like $600 and they're very good shooters. There are a few things that I'd prefer do to one out of the box, but as they come they're quite useable. The advantage to a 700 based rifle is that the aftermarket is virtually unlimited. You...
Thanks guys. At this point I don't have to go anywhere between now and tomorrow. I'll just take my fiance's XJ and go get a new driveshaft tomorrow morning.
And I appreciate your willingness to offer an opinion, and I'm not necessarily disagreeing with it, but I'm interested in the logic behind it. You're right that it was designed with 2 driveshafts for a reason, but that sure doesn't necessarily mean that it can't be operated with only 1 as a...
How would it be unsafe? My question was more from a mechanical standpoint. I'd assume that with the t-case in part time 4WD it wouldn't even know the rear shaft wasn't there. It would just drive the front and rear output shafts at the same speed, giving me FWD.
I just installed my SYE with a front XJ driveshaft. Right when I finished I noticed that on the double cardan unit one of the grooves where the clip that retains the bearing cup goes is broken, and it's missing the clip. There is nothing to retain that bearing cup. Obviously it would be unwise...
This makes sense to me. Knowing your holdovers and being able to do it with your scope is more useful in most field situations. I remember an article in Precision Shooting a while ago where they were discussing small caliber varminting rounds, and there were a bunch of guys out using various...
When you say "target shooting" are you talking about the ability to shoot a watermelon at 200 yards, or the ability to shoot a golf ball at 200 yards? Your choices can be narrowed down significantly if you're a little more specific about what you want out of the gun. Also, does your $1k figure...
I like Ballistic for calculations. It has a much more polished interface. I don't use it in the field, just to get me in the ballpark as far as what to expect.
I'm going to do my hack & tap SYE today and I'm wondering if I can cut the output shaft with a hacksaw. My dad has an angle grinder that I can use if I need to, but my parents are in the process of moving and I don't want to have to try and find it if I don't have to. So, is the output shaft...
