If you can find a Remington 700 for the same price as a Savage then you won't be disappointed. I'd still take the Savage over anything else on the market for general "plinking". The new triggers are just that good. The older , pre AccuTrigger rifles will get the job done but are not in the same category as the newer rifles, IMO.
As for Browning, I though it was pretty obvious that I was referring to their newer rifles, not a hundred year old maching gun. Browning rifles will put bullets down range as well as anything else, but you're going to pay a premium for the name.
