Who has heard about this and who is going to go to an outreach meeting? I am planning on going to the one in West Sac on 3/1/18, perhaps roll down to somewhere for dinner after?

Over the past several years, the public has expressed a desire for sanctioned Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) recreational opportunities in Yolo County. The need for an OHV recreational area has become more evident as the County, property owners, business owners and non-profit organizations are all currently impacted by the unsanctioned use of OHVs on their respective properties. Yolo County is exploring the possibility of creating an OHV Park within the unincorporated county.

The first step is to engage the public to gain insight into the preferred type of OHV facilities and services. To obtain this insight, the County has created a survey and encourages you to participate and the results will help guide the discussion on future steps in the OHV planning process.The survey can be accessed here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ohvyolo.

Additionally, the County will be holding two public meetings to solicit input from the public. The meetings will be held at the following times and locations detailed below.

Thanks. I filled out the survey as well and answered a few questions sort of on behalf of the types of people probably tearing up the land.

IE: mud pit area needed.

I think that a lot of the suggestions they had on the survey were excellent ideas.
-wash off location
-snack bar
-air up station
-service station

I even suggested that they do some sort of specialty tool rental program like Autozone if auto stores are far away. Refundable deposit is more than tool is worth so it can be replaced if stolen, and charge $5 for the rental.
I know that some people (including myself) would love to be able to repair their rig without having a buddy drive into town for the tool rental.

I know it sounds silly, but think about it, if there was a kids' playground and swingset at a picnic area? It would probably get used pretty well.

So Yolo County is very early in the process. They are gathering input and trying to understand what people are going to need and want.

The county folks are not OHV people so before the meetings they hadn't really understood that 4x4s and dirt bikes shouldn't really mix. There was some pretty good support for including a campground of sorts. Others and I talked about being able to drive farther and make a weekend of it, versus a day-use-only place, and oh by the way pay more or pay for more days at a time.

They DO NOT have potential sites picked out, they need to figure out how big of an area they need and what types of terrain and amenities users will want and use.

The survey will be active for a few more weeks so get on there, fill it out, be honest about that you want 4x4 trail riding and a campground. Sign up for the mailing list.

Follow the linky, comment on the state OHV website, and expect this to be a 3-5 YEAR process. The dirt bike folks have been out in force at the meeting last year and the meeting two weeks ago, but there are some 4x4 folks too. The county folks have been to Prairie City, hopefully Hollister is on their list too.

Update on 2019 OHV Planning Grant Application Process

On March 4, 2019, the County submitted its preliminary planning grant to the California State Parks OHV Grants and Cooperative Agreements Program. Based on the feedback received at multiple public meetings and from online survey results, the County focused its application on two objectives. First, the County is seeking grant funding to prepare a market analysis to ascertain if there is enough community and stakeholder support for OHV opportunities in Yolo County. Second, assuming there is demand and support for OHV opportunities, the County will prepare a feasibility study to examine two different scenarios: (1) improving access to existing OHV trail riding opportunities within the unincorporated County; and (2) creating a small-medium sized OHV park in the unincorporated County.

The County’s preliminary application is available on the State’s Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHMVR) Division website for public review and comments. Comments must be received no later than 5:00pm (PST) on Monday, May 6, 2019. The County encourages public comments and feedback on our grant application. Comments received during the public review period will be addressed in the final application submission. Bringing this discussion back a little.. I just received an email with another survey for the Yolo County proposed OHV site asking for feedback of what would be desired by the OHV community.

In their words: "We invite you to complete this survey and share your opinions and insights about the potential elements of an OHV park that should be considered. Your feedback is essential and will be used to shape the County’s process for selecting areas or sites for a new park. This survey is not a sales solicitation, and your responses are anonymous. By providing your email (optional), you will be added to our notification list and receive updates and invitations to participate in public workshops and future surveys. (The survey should take approximately 5 minutes or less.)"

There was a zoom virtual workshop on 10/29, but the "same" one will be done on Thursday 11/5 1:00-2:30 PM.

Part 1 should be existing OHV activity, both legal and illegal, emergency services, and public concerns and complaints.

Part 2 will progress updates and analyses, and next steps.

First, the County will prepare a market analysis to ascertain if there is enough community and stakeholder support for OHV opportunities in Yolo County. This includes analysis of potential economic benefit to the region from creation of OHV recreational opportunities in Yolo County and a review of existing and potential funding models for long-term operation and maintenance of an OHV facility. Second, assuming there is demand and support for OHV opportunities, the County will prepare a feasibility study to examine two different scenarios: (1) improving access to existing OHV trail riding opportunities within the unincorporated County; and (2) creating a small-medium sized OHV park in the unincorporated County. No potential site(s) have been identified at this point."

Improving access to existing OHV trail activities would probably involve setting up a staging area and trailhead near the Knoxville BLM area by Lake Berryessa, or trails to connect to there.
