XJ Exhaust Manifold mugshots (Is this a knock-off of a Banks Header?)

in my eyes everything is ok. decreased gas milage though............. only because i am flooring it to hear the motor roar. had a flowmaster installed also so it sounds good.

just to let everybody know. they now have these on sale for 135.70 shipped. i called my order in and asked about warranty and was told it does have a limited lifetime warranty.

My son and I both ordered them today after weeks of searching other forums. There are a few other guys who have used these so far and are pleased with them. about an hour after ordering we recieved a call to verify zip code as it was fat fingerd. I'm impressed with their response time on our order. I'll take detailed pics when it arrives and either post or have someone post them for me.

Just an update on dealing with supplier:

2,17,06 I fat-fingered my zip code and the they called me within 2 hours of placing order. Was told I should have header in less them a week. Was on another line and couldn't ask more info about header.

2,20,06 Received second call to make sure I wanted 2 headers and not 1. I also asked about warrentee and was told header has a 1 year replacement warrentee.

2,21,06 Received conformation of shipping along with tracking numbers at noon today.

Will take pics and post when it arrives.

For anyone who read this thread and had trouble with the links:

I clicked the hyperlinks i posted earlier, they all work, and the questionable site autopn.com site is still up. Im just gonna call these guys and pry it out of them, who makes the manifold and what stainless alloy it is.

Otherwise I'm not buying that $160 (chinese shi'ite) manifold!

(Like anyone here like me has $500 to spare on a borla or banks for a jeep worth $1000 with gas in it!)

I dropped the 500 and change on the banks header the one they are showing is not a banks.. the only problem i had with banks is that they show the header polished mine was not so i gave them a ear full+ they said it was in stock what they didnt tell me is that it was gonna take two weeks to be made for me.. but well worth the wait...

I put the banks header on my 95 xj.That pic dose not look like it but it could be that some one is coping the design. The banks flange is about 7-16 to 3-8 thick.

The lookalike in pics appears to be about 3/8" to me. I'll know tomorrow when mine arrives.

Well, header showed up as scheduled. It looks good. It weights just under 13 lbs and flange is 1/2" thick, but is 2 pieces. I have detailed pics of welding and collector inside views. PM me your email address and I'll send them. It's a 24MB .rar file so you can enlarge to see detail. If anyone knows how to post them, I'll send them to you to post.

Thanks

Get them to me, I'll toss them on my webserver. I would appreciate if they were already resized for web viewing.

Thanks for posting the pics 87manche! Sorry they aren't better.

I noticed that autopn changed the webpage for these headers. It now says they are made of 321 stainless and have a limited lifetime warrenty. Also another pic and installation instructon PDF.

I just went to the website and put in a 1990 model Laredo and it says , $190.00 plus shipping. Is this right ? If so why is the 1990 model so much more ? ? ?

Mine showed up yesterday, first thing I did was measure the collector. Dinky 2inch. Most of the aftermarket headers that I have seen listing specs had 2 1/2 inch collectors. I think most if any gain from this will be from cleaning up carbon deposits, can't see much use in it other than as a stock replacement if you have a cracked one and can't afford a header. Reasonable deal for $135 shipped tho.

Can you tell me how long the primaries are?

also, the collector is 2" in diameter, or length? Optimum primary length on a straight-6 is 32-36", these appear to be only slightly better than stock primary lengths.

Wonder how you would hook a 2 1/2" collector into header pipe that is 2"? Stock header pipe is 2" on all I've seen.

Primarys are not all equal, but they do 'collect',... Stock welded exhaust manifold is not a header and has no tuning or collection like headers do.

This is almost a carbon copy of the Banks header for stock header pipe. I guess you are saying the Banks headers only increase performance because of the cleaning of carbon deposits? If you like it, fine. If you don't like it, fine. This thread is for general information.

Primary header length is no where near as simple as saying 32-36". Diameter of pipe, what rpm you want it engine to perform at and the size and length of exhaust are critital parts of equation.

All flanges have to be stock thickness in order for the intake and exhaust to seat aginst the head and seal when bolted down because all but 2 bolts clamp both intake and exhaust to head.
