WTB: HP D30 with 4.56 gears

I also think old school cj lp30s/dana 27s can go deeper than 4.88 hence the stock 5.38s in the old ones with a dana 27 front.

Hey guys I need to know if Dana 30 U Joint, axle shafts,u joints and unit bearings out of a grand Cherokee will work as spare in my XJ D30?

Can we assume ZJ? the WJ is too wide ... ZJ grand cherokees have CV shafts. I wouldnt carry them for spares. As for unit bearings, that depends on your brakes. the unit bearing has to match your rotor depth and OD. so just compare the rotors on the setup to yours, if they are the same rotors, then you can probably use the unit bearings. Id recomend googling it if you have any more questions, this topic has been covered in great detail in the past.

Thank you Jon. There is a pair for sale up here out of an ZJ and I was hoping that they could just drop in my rig for spares.

not often you find something up here that will work on an XJ so I thought I would ask.

IMHO a Dana 30 should be a Dana 30 and all the parts should fit each other.

if they are free, or like 10$ for the set, and you are having a hard time finding spares, i guess grab em so you have something. otherwise, wait until you have a weekend to head to picknpull, grab a set of ABS shafts, and run those.

these dana 30s wont work:
All low pinion, very narrow:

Cj drum brake narrow track pre 77 CJ dana 30s under CJs
CJ disc brake narrow track 77-79
CJ disc brake wide track
scouts had drum and disc brake 30s as well
Stay away from WJ 30s, they are too wide, by a few inches on both sides.

what will work for an XJ:
XJ HP30
84-89 CAD disco , just 260 shafts(weakest xj u joint shaft)
84-2001 non disco will have 297 joints
the ABS non disco shafts have much bigger yokes than the non ABS shafts
tj, yj, and zj shafts (but now you know ZJ shafts are weak)
id run a ZJ shaft in a bind, but wouldnt plan around em
grab some chromos from a vendor or used on here and go from there.

2000-2001 xj and all non rubicon tj's had lp 30 amd all parts can be swapped.

Shafts are all the same size but brakes and unit bearings differ

I was introducing the old cj 30s as "all low pinion, very narrow " shafts. the 84-01 XJ shafts below that show he can use the shafts.

Unit bearings must match rotors, so dont carry just any ol unit bearing for a trial spare. Make sure it matches your rotors...
