Lets leave Winterfest alone, and work at creating a new event.
One that will appeal to other out side of the tri-state area(Wis, Ill, Ind.)

I don't think just because we want to create another event means we need to scrap the old one!

Our Chapter is just over a year old now, give things time to grow at a good pace.

fo shizzle.

let's move on.

As far as location and Official/Unofficial-ness, is it going to have to come to a vote? Does a motion need to be made?
To make an event official; first, the Chapter BOD must agree to have an official event. It should be organized properly and have some plan involved.
Secondly, I (or whoever is the Pres.) wolud bring it before the Nat'l BOD for their approval. They vote on it, ask questions if needed then they either say Yes or No.

That is all that needs to be done to make an event official.

BTW, the Nat'l BOD are the ones who nixed the idea of WF at Disney last year because we did not have enough members to lead trails, too much liability letting a non-member lead an officila event.

Well before we 'unofficialize' WinterFest, we need to make sure that we have a source of income.
WF, right now is this Chapters ONLY source of income.
We need to pay for that website.
It would be nice to be able to pay for misc. items out of the Chapter funds instead of waiting to be paid back, if the money comes in.

I agree about making Winterfest a more scaled back event this year, it was alot of work and money to put out last year.
But I think we should still have Winterfest an 'official' event with Tech inspections, organized trail runs, ect.
And if we start NOW on getting raffle items and campground spots it won't be such a rush to do everything in Jan and Feb.
If you guys don't want a raffle or shirts or a dinner, that is fine, although, we made quite a bit of money on that stuff.

I agree.

Got to keep the cash flow. If this is the only source of income, I say change nothing, till there is another source of income.

I've got a place for stickers and t-shirts. Don't know if I can get a better price than what you got last year, but I'll go talk to them and find out if you wish. They're busy people too, here again, the sooner the better. Just let me know.

I like the ideas everyone is putting out; I think we should keep WF official at the Badlands and add other events throughout the year... I'd like to see some feedback about what went on last year at WF so we can determine what to change and what to maintain. Lay it on, give me the good bad & ugly.

Accomodations?

Food?

Raffle?

Trails/groups?

Shirts/stickers?

Registration process?

If anyone would like to volunteer, please step up.

I think last year went great, there seemed like a ton of work and effort put forth and it showed. Everyone who contributed last year should be proud.

The only problem or complaints regarding WF NOW, is that some people want to see the location changed, or make it an unofficial event to aleviate the amount of work involved, which I think we decided could be scaled back.

The location isn't changing, end of story. We need to create new events besides winterfest to broaden our horizons. Step up people, and begin planning a trip.

The event is remaining "official," discussion over, the chapter needs the revenue.

We have recieved lots of good feedback in this thread. I think now, we just need to start planning for THIS event, Winterfest 2006.

honestly, what more is there to discuss on those two topics?

according to what Sean said regarding Disney being nixed by the nat'l bod for WF last year, we need to start planning and executing trips with members/trail leaders to a new location, learn the location well, and then we can hold official events there. I would imagine it would take more than a trip or two to learn the trails and confidently lead a group of people who are counting on you not to fawk it up and waste their time. So unless this happens in the next 3-4 months, how can the location change? seems to me it's pretty cut and dry.

If you or anyone else want it to be unofficial, figure out a way to pay for the chapter expenses. Hosting a website is costly, Sean said it, this is our only event now, we need this event's revenue. I would imagine it's almost time to replenish our chapter funds. Our only source of funds is about 4 months out and now you want to take that away, what's the solution? Looks like, for now, WF needs to be official.

I don't have control issues, I'm just stating the obvious, so as a group we can focus our energy elsewhere instead of wasting time beating this into the ground.

I'm just saying that maybe there is more to discuss.
Maybe others would like to chime in.
Maybe other ideas are out there.
Things have been posted but NOTHING has been decided yet.
The topic isn't dead just because you're sick of reading about it.

Your right Kid. I understand where Phunks coming from but I think what has been said so far is great and if someone, anyone, has more to add or even just wants to agree or disagree with what's been said so far, great.

As far what was good or bad last year, I don't think there was much bad last year. I wasn't too impressed with the food but that obviously wasn't the fault of the BOD as they didn't cook it. :) I think a "cook out" style dinner would be fun. Make it a pot luck with others bringing side dishes, deserts, drinks, etc. I'm all for shirts (maybe even sweat shirts seeing it is WF after all) and I think dash plaques would be nice too. I agree with everyone who said the erlier we start planning and getting our ducks lined up the better. Whoever brought that smoooooth tequila last year, bring some more, that was goooood. :)

Could anyone one make a call to the CG and see how early they're willing to be open? Showers optional of course. ;)

I'm actually getting excited about WF!

My .02 (Cause you all know I could not resist)

Winterfest should remian official.
Winterfest should remain at Attica.
Winterfest should be scaled down....just a bit, dinner was a great idea.

Do not read anything into these statments.

Official or Unofficial...

I couldn't give a rat's ass for either...

Before the chapter was even "formed",

Attica was the winter pilgrimage of the offroad faithful in this area...

The "Event" existed before the chapter...

Hell...

The chapter might not even exist if it wasn't for a lot of locals that met, wheeled, drank and sat around a campfire over there...

Now it sounds more like this "event" is more about "revenue" than camraderie...

I'm distancing myself from that angle...

Since when are we about the "money"?

maintaining a website?

Frack the fracking website!!!

I enjoy hanging out and occasionally wheeling with this group...

but if we're gonna start runnning tabs on what it "costs" to get together...

Then I might as well start charging admission to Meatfest and start selling cups of John's homebrew...

I'm getting a bad vibe from this and hope I'm just due for another bottle of Zoloft...

I have never met a more generous group of people and to bring the issue of money and revenue to the table is frankly quite disgusting.

With that being said...

if someone volunteers to bring a big enough grill and we take a collection...

We can have a mini-Meatfest in Attica...

The real one's still in April...

Maybe.

They allow pinatas in Oklahoma?

Or do you just string up and beat wetbacks with a stick until their loose change falls out?

:dunno:
Isn't that normal practice everywhere?

Actually, if none are around, we make pinatas that look like wetbacks and beat them.

Okie Terry said:

Not anymore...

Around here the wetbacks are making pinatas out of vietnamese and cambodian border runners...

The trickle down effect...

Slightly back on-topic tho...

I liked my first "official" winterfest...

but let's not try to make this more grandiose than they have to be...

It's about meeting and wheeling right?
