Not that anybody cares what SPIXJA has to say...

but...

Call me a traditionalist...

Attica for Winterfest...

Anywhere else for Springrock '06

Well, since several have offered their take on Winterfest, let me chime in.

What seems to be overlooked here is another reason for Winterfest. Since the formation of the MWC, it has become an official event that helps introduce new members to NAXJA and the MWC. Personally, in my opinion, Winterfest is a Badlands event. This is a good event to promote NAXJA and MWC. Forget tradition and "real" wheeling. For new people, Badlands is intimidating enough and provides diversity in the types of trails there. I have attended two, and the biggest groups each year ran Green. Formal MWC events is more than wheeling ... it also includes putting faces with names, getting to know each other, and introducing this sport to those who are interested. As a Chapter, should not let ourselves get too self indulged with what we personally want and forget our other responsibilities.

Last year, I made several wheeling trips. Each one was posted here for everyone to consider and plan on attending. One of them was Hot Springs. The turn out and response was very disappointing to say the least. Another was Sweatfest. Again, another very poor response for those who want "real wheeling". Why is it that Badlands has this rep as not being a good place to wheel and everyone wants to go elsewhere, but very few took advantage of the other trips that were planned last year?

Next year, I want to again plan several trips. I'd like to see Sweatfest an official NAXJA event and a way of introducing MWC members to some "real wheeling". We had a chance to do this last year, but for "unofficial reasons" we (MWC) did not support it. As it turned out, it was a damned shame.

How about we just plan more events and take advantage of them, rather than try to change the only one we currently have ... JMO.

FYI-

Trail Work at the Badlands

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have just started re-marking and rebuilding all of the trails at the Badlands. The goal is to change the trails that everyone has run over and over again, and to re-mark all of the trails to make them easier to follow. So far orange trail is almost done, and there are some impressive changes. The trail is in the same area as before, but a long section of the trail has been covered with rocks. The rock section should be pretty challenging for a vehicle on 35's locked front and rear. All of the rocks can be bypassed. Also, in a few weeks pink trail will finally be well marked and easy to follow.

thumbs up to that!

What? No more looking for the orange spray paint spot? That's no fun!-LOL!
TIA for the trail markings :)

shit!

you were going to be there?

damn - then it should have been in OK.

my take - the top 5 people with the highest post count that are actualy planning on attending WF should be able to vote on location.

Okie, Ramsey, Me, Lawn Cher, and Rev - as i doubt that Hinkley would make it.

as for my real thoughts -
I was looking forward to checking out Disney and 2 hours less drive there and back - probably 200 miles round trip saved...

However, wherever WF is - ill be there.

I would be open to heading down to Disney later, but couldnt last summer because of my "dual chapter" nature.

I guess the bigest thing that I am looking for now is to be at the same winterfest as EVERYONE else - to enjoy the company and be my true asshatt webwheeler self with everyone else that makes fun of me.

It sucks that some people arent willing to drive for events - it will be a 6 hour drive if i drive to Lawn Cher's and an 8 or 10 if I just drive straight to either Disney(8) or Attica(10). Okie and I drove probably the same distance as everyone else at WF combined last year - and it seem that will happen again.

oh- and without this - what would WF be?

I can see the want to have an someplace you've never been before. Sometimes though, that's just not practical due to available dollars and work constraints. A weekend is all I can pull off in the winter, that's why I suggested the Badlands or Rockport. Selfish? Hell Yah! :)

There are dollars to think about also. I spent around $500-$600 to visit the COfest this summer; had a blast!. Bloose spent much more than that and had to take out a second mortgage for the fuel ;) Just not practical to do too many long trips durring the year. Last time I went to the Badlands I spent close to $120 in fuel, food, admission and camping and I am "only" 5hrs away.

Perhaps NAXJA should be sub divided in to more chapters. More chapters= more chapter events=more "Official" NAXJA wheeling!
