Winch advise please

I'd buy it for $100, and when you upgrade your lift/tires and get in places that you'll get stuck worse, then buy a 9000/9500 winch of choice. You can always put the 'little' one on your trailer. 6000# is better than nothing, and rarely do you use the full strength of your winch anyhow.

Not true, when you use a snatch block, you have 2 lengths of 5/16" sharing the load. The winch can only pull 6000 lbs, no matter how many pulleys you run it through, the cable still only sees 6000lbs.

With enough pulleys, you could extract a tank with dental floss :)
Well, doesn't it sort of depend on how many places your Jeep is attached to the cable. I mean, if your pulley set up has one line running to the jeep, you are applying more force to the cable and thereby at risk. On the other hand, if you have more places the cable is attached, you split the force. So you could set up the pulleys to split the force or not. Depends on how you set it up.

But a single strand of dental floss attached to the tank won't work. You'd have to have a thousand pulleys attached to the tank for your example to be true. If the dental floss ran from the tank to the pulley arrangement, you'd be limited to the two pound strength of the rope.

If your cable is only attached to the jeep in one place then you can only get the single line pull of the 6000# winch. Ease up on the crack a bit okay.:rof:

Your personal insult is not appreciated, especially since you are wrong. Had you been polite, I would have diagrammed it for you. But since you are a putz, you can figure it out by yourself. Hint, "if your pulley set up has one line running to the jeep" not equal to "if your winch has one line running to the pulley set up. . . ."

Hint: your winch is attached to your jeep, and the cable is attached to the winch.

Hint: you don't attach the snatch block to anything using the winch cable itself.

Hint: NOMINATED

I think the wording may be messed up a bit, but the concept is right.

When you run the line out and around 1 snatch block (attached to a stout object like a BIG tree) and bring the hook back to the Jeep, the load on each side of the pulley is 1/2 of the total load. In that senerio, you can pull yourself out of a 12,000lb load jam (3X your vehicle weight) and the load on each side of the line, will be 6,000lbs. The Winch load will be 6,000lbs.

Play the same senerio with a total load of 6,000lbs, and each line sees 3,000lbs, and the load on the Winch is 3,000lbs.

The only problem is that you can't overload your bumper. If you have a 6,000 Winch mounted on a peice of industrial strength aluminum foil, it's not going to stand up to a 12,000lb force being placed on it.

The Army teaches rope recovery of vehicles with people acting as the winch force. It takes lots of rope, quite a few blocks to get the multiplication needed to do it, but it can be done!

Does that make sense, or am I smoking from the same bong as the other guy ;)
