3.54 and 3.55 are essentially the same; the number is figured by dividing the ring teeth by the pinion teeth. The number rarely divides out to the hundredths place, but is rounded up or down and you end up with "something close"
There's no problem running closely mismatched gears like 3.54 and 3.55 and as BrettM pointed out, your D30 has 3.54s... http://ring-pinion.com/content/products/default.asp?vid=4&pid=5 It's not uncommon (and not crap) for someone to refer to the gears as 3.55, especially if they have a C8.25 in back because that really does have 3.55s
