Why we need to keep our XJ's running

Saw a similar article in the current issue of AutoWeek. Shoot, if it will perform the same off-road as an XJ, I have no problem not burning fossil fuels.

I can't get the link to work (probably my problem - internet been acting screwy lately)... but assuming it's about fuel cell-powered vehicles. I think it could be a fantastic off-road machine. Think about it: electric motors produce 100% torque at 1 rpm, can be easily waterproofed, and very quiet (not quite as fun as a roaring V8 - but at least you could hear tires spinning at whatnot) etc. The possiblities are pretty amazing!

A few years ago one of the universities made an electric powered XJ. I had the article bookmarked, but they have since taken it down. In the article things such as the XJs drag coefficient were mentioned.

Fuel cells, fine, but....

OMG LOL!!!

"Jeep ruggedness is signalled by the flared wheel arches that give the over-sized tyres plenty of play, tow hooks exposed on the front end, and the ‘precision tool’ look of the headlamps and mirrors. The military-style tyre tread, exposed front suspension and the hiking boot tread detail on the sill plate all enhance the vehicle’s adventurous image."

OMG it has exposed tow hooks!!! And hiking boot tread detail on the sill plate.

Looks like some mutant mechanized Tadpole that just grew legs & found land :)

Make it go away! Please make it go away!

Solid axels, soft top, I don't see a problem.

Aren't ALL Jeep vehicles supposed to be able to cross trails on the Rubicon?

(i'll believe it when I see it)

Good gracious that's an ugly, um, truck...thing.

Is that a wing on the back?

Interesting, looks like the fenders are easy to replace or remove for offroad.
In this case it's a good thing that most concept vehicles never make it into production.
Upside is it would be easy for a producer to base a sat morning cartoon series on it, you could morph that nose into a talking vehicle pretty easy :D
Could call it the 'RRJ' for 'Roger Rabbit'.
All kidding aside, an alternative fueled vehicle would be nice if it was resonably priced and for a change the manufacturers actually gave us a vehicle that was cheaper to operate over the long haul instead of designing parts that cost more to replace or fail at a higher rate.

I don't care what supplies the go juice..but this thing looks like it should be fetching the paper and going 'beep' at you in the morning... Guess we could call it a Land "Rover"...

"Danger, Will Robinson. Danger, Will Robinson."

"Which way to Obie Wan Kenobee?"
