Whos on high BP meds?

I do appreciate everyone input. As aweful as this sounds, its good to know you're not alone when you start having health issues. Ive always been lucky, when I was younger I could do most anything to my body and it didnt seem to mind but when I hit my 40s a couple years ago things changed. I guess its time that I start watching after myself better.
I think Im going to give my body a chance to fix itself before I go on meds. It may mean that I get taken off the road but so be it. I cant let a job or the government make health decisions for me.

I think my BP goes up just trying to wrestle the cuff onto my arm.
Mine spikes at the Dr.s office.

FWIW: My dad was kinda too stubborn to change his lifestyle, retired and what not. He was on some medication (I can find out) and it gave him an uneasy feeling in his stomach. He did switch from brandy to vodka tho and it came down quite a bit.

been on for 10 years, bp great, cholesterol great. They call it the silent killer as the Rev said for a reason. The heart is a muscle, the more it works the bigger it gets. Ok for skeletal muscle not the heart. there is a point where a muscle won't stretch anymore. There are a multitude of different medsfor this. talk with your DOC. I have been a nurse and medic for almost 20 years and see younger people each year in the ER or now the Cath lab who did not take care of themselves and their prognosis is not good. need bypass, or transplants or Pacemakers or Implantable defibrillators. DONT WAIT too long

I was on BP meds for awhile, very low dose, 10mg Lotrimin (I think that was the name). No side effects and the BP went right down. I changed my diet, commited to chilling out and staying relaxed, and after a year or so I had to quit taking the meds because my BP was too low. I haven't gone back on the pills and it's been a few years now. The diet change was simple, less fat (cut out most deserts), cut out most meat, I stick to fish and chicken occasionally, cut out the Diet Cokes, and I eat a lot of vegetables. I cook more at home, since veggies are easy to fix. Since I still love some deserts, I found some soy ice cream that I really like, so that's what I eat at home.

It's working for me, but I wouldn't hesitate going back on the pills if I needed to.

Cholesterol and BP are influenced by genetics and life style.
Our family has a history of both high cholesterol and BP. In my case, I have been on meds for 15 years since my early forties, even though I have never been over weight, excise regularly and have a wife that feeds me like a rabbit. The important thing is to find what works for you. Water pills have worked fine for me but my brother had to try about ten different meds until he found one that controlled his BP and did not have bad side effects.
Do whatever you have to do to get things down to a normal level; your body will appreciate it in the long run.

You took
Jock Itch Cream
for your high blood pressure?
Are you sure? :D

I can see how a seriously itchy crotch could mess with your blood pressure, he is treating the cause instead of the symptom.:D

If my wife suddenly developed permanent laryngitis, my last kid moved out and the dogs forgot how to bark 24/7, my blood pressure would likely return to normal without the meds. Stress management can be a big part of it.

Telling someone they are going to get laid off if they don't get there blood pressure down, seems kind of counter productive to me.

Im not that worried about losing this job, its been time for a change for awhile now.
But, lets see.
The week I had my physical, my mother in law died, I had to put my dog down, my dad announced that his house sold and hes moving in with us and Im working 60 hrs/wk and somehow have to install a bathroom and bedroom in the basement before the end of the month so he has a place to live. The last month or so my life has been a regular country music song. This, along with letting my health slip over the last year, probably is contributing to my high BP, but its still something I need to work on getting under control.

Fishing on a quiet stream and moderate beer intake works for me. I had a mild stroke about 13 years ago, sure encouraged me to reassess my priorities.

Not even close....
I had my physical this morning. I wasnt even close to passing. All week long I checked my BP religiously, several times per day, using multiple machines and it's been under 140/90 pretty regular. Once or twice it strayed above but just barely.
So this morning I get up and take it before I leave the house and its 128/88. An hour later when the doctor takes it, he gets 164/102.
I guess Im now among the ranks of the unemployed. Rest easy knowing the streets are a safer place.

Catch22, if you get nervous your blood pressure goes up, tell somebody they are going to loose there job if they don't get there blood pressure down, increase the stress and they are bound to fail.
Around here they put you on a monitor, a package you carry around with you for a week.
High stress situations, sex and other activities are bound to make your blood pressure go up.

Guess I should've said NO to the morning-sex this morning.

Not enough can be just as bad for your blood pressure as too much,:D

Just an update for those who replied.
I was in fact forced to leave my job. They told me to get my BP under control in a week or quit, so I quit (Ive never been fired from a job and I didnt want to break the streak). Its all good anyhow. A couple days ago I got a call from the local Community College and I started work there as a CDL instructor. One of their instructors suddenly quit and they needed someone ASAP. Three days into the job and Im having a blast. It was a little stressful at first because I walked into the class already in progress with no idea where to start but its coming together pretty good.
I still need to get my BP down to pass my DOT physical but I have some time to work on it before the students get on the road. Ive lost a couple more pounds and Im walking, biking or jogging daily and my BP is gradually going down. Im pretty confident that if I scheduled my physical just after one of my brisk walks or a jog that I could easily pass. My BP averages around 131/90 when I wake in the morning but gradually drops throughout the day and for a few hours after exercizing, its as low as or around 116/76.
Im happy with the way my Systolic has dropped but my Diastolic still needs some work. Any suggestions on that?
Im off of fried foods, Ive cut way back on red meat, no salts, no soft drinks or coffee, no smoking or drinking. My diet now consists of more fruits, veggies, cereals and dairy products.
