Who has a Tuffy drawer in the back of their XJ?

To the right of the box in this picture is where I have my hf onboard air compressor...

ditched the rear seat in favor of the full cargo box

rear tool and survival gear storage

front where I store all my fluids, spare alt, starter, shafts ect.

Here's mine...the drawer slides on 100lb sliders. The front lid sits on a piano hinge.I'm working on making the box into a sleeping platform because I'm tired of messing with tents.....

OK, here are the pics I have.

It now is much dirtier, and has stickers all over the Co2 tank and wood door. Tank mount is below.

I like it, and would not change anything, EXCEPT I went with cheap drawer guides that don't allow full extension, I should have spent the coin to get the ball bearing ones that are side mount and come all the way out.

The shelf/table thing really rocks. Also like the net on top, I always have stuff under the net.

Hope this helps!
Jason

Don't forget to thru bolt your box, not just screw down, it WILL come loose in a roll over! Mine is thru both fenders with several bolts with huge washers on tire side.

Here is what I made. One of the best mods.

I used grey felt from joann fabric to cover mine.....good thing the girlfriend goes there alot,I would have never thought to use that myself but it works ok.It's really flexible so a little glue and it's good to go.

Ok, I'll show mine too...

Steel frame, wood inserts covered in carpet. (bad picture)

P7020034.jpg

Full extension slides (I think 150Lb rating...?)

The lid keeps stuff in place while bouncing down the trail (I had visions of tools bouncing into position that would keep me from opening the drawers). They also act as a table surface.

P7020037.jpg

Single chain link used as tie down points (the entire box is bolted to the floor in 4 places with big fender washers)

The odd shaped area in front of the drawers and behind the seat is used to store spare axles, tie rods, driveshaft etc.

i now tip my hat to you sir. im just about to start building my cargo box (much like urs) and i had no clue what to do it that little spot of space, since in tryin to use as much space as possible. THANK YOU!!!

I've got the Tuffy box in my rig. Fits great but after seeing some of the home built boxes here I'm considering some changes.

Its fun to see people creating ideas for something that is new. Any reason why no one has come up to seat height? Or made a Headache rack? I have an MJ, so i am thinking outside the box here. I just think it would be great to have a bigger box and then a cage of sorts that was three sided with an opening to the back. One could hang stuff from it and it might be neat?
