Wheel size help?

I was a big fan of falken Rocky Mountains on wet roads. Probably getting those once the pro comp ats I have wear out. Not sure on sidewall strength thought. Never really had them in the rocks but reviews seem to say they were good.

dude we are telling you from experience . If you are going to live in Reno you will want to wheel out there.

if you wont go 33s, please consider 32s. stockers on the side for bay area drives and 33s is a killer setup man. killer.

FYI I get my black steelies from SUMMIT racing (in reno) for like 54$ a pop, and they do free shipping on orders over 100$ usually. i was into 4 brand new black steelies for around 216$ shipped.

damn. alright ill look more into 33's. i was just going off of some advice from a trusted friend that 31's are a good learner wheel. i just hate how much of a money pit this budget bucket turned out to be hahaha but thats with all cars i guess.

Do i have to change anything on the car besides cutting fenders? such as lift options or can i keep a 3" lift and bumpstop it. Also how much backspacing do i need on the new wheels?

I ran 33s on a 3" lift for like 1 year or 2 and fender trimming. it all depends if you are willing to cut the fenders or not.. i eventually spent 5$ on hockey pucks for front bump stops, and used some scrap 2x2 square tubing to extend the rear bump stops off the frame. you can do bump stops for pretty much like 10$ at that point. 33s are also a great beginner tire as well as 31s.

as for money pits, i hear ya, I have over 4000$ just in the last 7 weeks into the front suspension/steering/axle(should have built a 60, im pretty pissed right now...)
sucks but these jeeps are an addictive expensive drug . the thing is, the cost is pretty much the same whether you do 33s or 31s and new rims if you shop around. thats why. I ran 33s and stock gears for that same time period and it seemed to be ok.

alright alright i hear that. couple questions for the 33.s on a 3". ya ill have to trim and i hate that cause im a show car muscle guy but i guess ill get over it (wont be a mall crawler look then ahhaha). but how much do i need to trim? cause since reading ive been alittle afraid its gonna have to be like 1" of fender left lol.
just did some "researching" and the handy dandy web says that 33s on a 3 dont have as much up and down travel as 31's. do i want more up and down travel or do i want the more clearance? kinda on the fence with that. and for the bumpstops i am building some custom extendable ones with a friend (perty sweet stuff so far).

You will still have as much downtravel as your suspension allows. But you will need to bumpstop/trim. The more you bumpstop, the less you have to trim your fenders. I still have not actually done them myself yet, but I recommend flexyflares. They look clean and don't crack/brake like bushwhackers.
I personally HATED driving on stock gears with 31's I guess it does not help that I have a tired Renix. So, definitely plan on gearing ASAP if you decide to run 33's.

if you dont want to trim go up to 4.5" of lift. otherwise just accept the trimming as part of the game and let loose, kinda like jumping into the deep end of the pool for the first time when you are a kid, or ripping off a band aid real quick.

hmm ok im definitely thinking about it. and no i wont go 4.5 cause i already have the three, plus lcog is better even though 4.5 isnt really that high like a 6. i think it will just look funny to be driving back on my street wheels with all this trim missing and such haha

Get a good set of 31s, take your time, learn to pick lines, keep the body clean and not dented to shit, keep your vehicle inexpensive and reliable through school, then turn it into a beater when you have money to spare.

ya im still leaning towards that option more because of school. 33's would be legit but in reality for me i think 31's are my best bet for right now. and i can always go around stuff like a wuss no shame there.

just follow your heart. dont listen to us. of course in school you can still have a cheap DD and a rig if you want. then you can go nuts.

Just for a measure of confidence in the 3" and 33s this is where I'm at. 3" and 35s on stock rims. I just finished trimming a bit mor up and forward in the front and tis pick is before. The rear cut and fold is also not finished (filled and painted) and I was in a rush when I did it.

33s would probably fit with the factory flares on and a little trimming.

This.

Sam we can cut off as much as you want from your fenders. If you don't want to cut a bunch we can just bump stop a lot. No big deal as long as the tires clear the front and rear of your fenders as you turn.

haha ya i definitly am just going with the 31's cause of the DD/ college rig part. i was seriously thinking about the 33's more seriously cause i like to check out all options before i buy/build but i think im going with my original 31 maxxis's.

you guys are right about the same pricing on both sizes. but for now 31's will do the trick. and ill try to keep up with yall :gee: haha

but i still appreciate all the commentary. it helped me further my decision

ya you will get all points of view if you ask a question like that . no one is right and no one is wrong, just a bunch of input and then follow your gut instinct. . well technically, I am right , and everyone else is wrong.
