Whats the deal with Dana 30 Yukon shafts?

So much of the information on the Dana 30 is crap. I hate to junx myself, but my front axle defies most common D30 myths. Might be how I drive, or what type of terrain I wheel in? While I agree that depending on what type of wheeling you do, any axle needs to be modified to adapt to that purpose. My point is a Dana 30 isn't worth spending this much time and effort on. Save your money, and save yourself a lot of hassles and build a 44 with proper hubs, real high steer, and a stronger ring & pinion, and a stronger housing, and better brakes....

I know money is tight, but if you really need more axle than a D30, why stick with it at all?

LOL "junx".

So you are saying you have had good success with the D30?

I have found that letting your D30 know it is appreciated, helps it survive. If I am doing something sketchy like towing another rig, I make sure to periodically call out "I love my Dana 30!". Excellent product, would buy again!

I just bought New CV shafts from the autoparts store. They are theoretically stronger then U-joints and don't have the bind to them like U-joints do when turning.

They also carry a lifetime warranty and the new ones do not require a core. The stock axles/bearings make great trail spares.

Trusses? Are you going to desert race it?

actually after i throw the full cage in this jan/feb and hopefully do some frame stiffeners at the same time and tie in the stiffeners to some rock sliders/boatsides, finally install my limit straps, and do the rear shocks mounted through the floor(have some 5150s but want 7100s), throw another leaf in the rear pack, then i do plan on getting some of the go fast...but not alot of it

Which ones did you get, and where from?

Its like a jinx. As soon as you start talking about how great a certain part on your rig is, it will immediately turn to junk. Jinx + junk = junx. :gag:

Success? That isn't the correct term. My feelings about my D30 are purely platonic, not a love affair. It reminds me of an ugly girl. It feels good under me, and I have a good time, I just don't consider the relationship as a long term commitment. :laugh2::rof::laugh2:

Wow! You are on it this morning, almost a full cup of coffiee up and out my nose on that one! I always thought your Dana 30 was kind of hot, even for a ugly one, I would tap that!

Oh and my rig sucks, every part is about to fail, all my friends will leave me broken down on the trail and I will run out of beer on the first night of a 5 day wheeling trip!

Anti junx! :spin1:
