What was your first vehicle....?

72 NOVA SS. Didn't realize that the rear 1/4 was full of bondo until I hit a 4 ft high wooden post. Had it for 2 yrs, sold it for $400.00 more than I paid.

THE ONLY CAR I didn't LOSE money on...

drove around all afternoon when I bought it palying the part of STUD. Go down the freeway off ramp and look both ways at the light for our fine outstanding police force. ( not one in sight ) until... Light turns green, I light up the locker rear, and through the billowing smoke from the tires comes the old red and blue.

OFFICER : " do you know why I pulled you over ?" ( i.e. loaded question )
ME : " Sorry sir. Just bought it. Popped the clutch I normally drive an automatic."

OFFICER: " Hope you have some money left son, here's a $128.00 wreckless Driving ticket. Have a Nice day, and Please.... be safe."

Miss the car, but not the insurance premiums... Got 6tickets inside of 6 months with her...

1980 Toyota Corolla Tercel
1495cc engine
22mpg around town
gutless
I actually used to take it off-road (mild stuff obviously) and kept wearing out the cv joints in the axles.

My first vehicle was a 94 Geo Tracker 4x4. Stock except for a pair of Kenwood 6x9s and Rockford 8" woofer boxes w/tweeters (it was one or the other plugged in, only had 1 pair of wires). It was my Mom's that she gave me when she bought her Lumina. The first I bought was a 92 Isuzu Trooper. The first repo'd was the 92 Isuzu Trooper. Never missed a payment, but after paying $7500 for it, I found out the motor was dying, and then the transmission blew on the highway. CHP gave me one day to come get it, then impounded it. This was at the CHP scales on I10, after he had watched me sit there with it for 5 hrs waiting for someone to come pick me up. No one had a truck to tow it with. When I found out where it was (2 weeks later) the impound fees were almost $2000, and towing back to base in 29 would've been almost another grand. I just got my stuff and left it there. The bank repo'd it before it was auctioned. I still had to pay them back for it though. I then reacquired the Tracker which my Mom had kept for me upon returning from overseas, and crashed it, bought a $500 90 Samurai that ran on 3 cylinders (out of 4), leaked oil, and had a transfer case that only worked in 2Hi. Traded that in on my 96 XJ and got exactly $500 for it. All I lost in that deal was the $200 for a pair of BFG ATs. The XJ is easily the best in my line of not so great cars. The Tracker was second, even if you frgive the Isuzu of its non-running times...

I "inherited" my dad's '87 Mazda B2000 pick-up. Which was turned into a slammed cruiser. 15" (17"or 18" were way too $$ in 1993!) billet wheels, shaved tailgate and emblems, custom paint, lots of stereo, tweed interior, etc, etc. I think he bought the truck new in '87 for like $6500, and I had over $7000 in receipts for "extras". Thus the start of my customizing life. 11 years of driving and 10 vehicles later, in my 3rd XJ (1 YJ and 2 TJs). The only XJ I really want now (to keep) is a black 60th Anniv, the current 'rokee will do for now.

My first vehicle was an 1957 Ford F100 fleetside. Two months later I had an 1961 Chevy 1/2ton SWB Stepside with a vette engine. My folks made me sale it and got me a fricken POS Fiat 128. Then I got an 1966 Chevy Nova.

What was your first vehicle, and how did you get it ?

1969 Saab Model 96. Damn thing ran like hell. Had one of the rare V4 with REAL ball bearings for the mains. I was told the RPMs topped out over 10K. Ran like a bat outta hell until I was driving I-70 to Denver, east, and one of the u-joints in the front gave out. Doing 65 and twisted the right axle til it broke, threw me into a ditch and fried the tranny (transaxle) and snapped the crankshatft due to the torque. It sucked!

Now I'm looking for one to fix up as a hobby. The damn things are worth a pretty penny now. There extremly rare.

1983 Chevy 3/4ton 2WD I inherited it with no engine and a bad tranny, I had the tranny rebuilt and then threw in a nicely built 400 Small block and proceeded to go through a set of rear tires each week, I could buy used tires from school for CHEAP so I would smoke off a set in a week or 2, until I over revved the engine trying to race some stupid VW and threw a rod through the side of the block. I liked that truck alot it got me and my dirtbike around, as well as freinds bikes and whatever else I needed to haul. I miss having a truck.

I had one of these! IIRC, it was a 1973. Loved the thing - it had really fun handling. It also had the freewheel with the mind of its own that nearly killed me when it kicked in without my realising it. Once I got used to that, though, it was great to drive. Had to sell it due to a move, though.

They keep popping up in the Recycler out here every once in a while, and I see them on eBay. A good candidate for a rolling restoration looks like it shouldn't run you more than $1500-$2000.

1971 datsun 240z, got it in 85' and didn't have a license yet, but built it for the next year. 3.2 stroker motor(disiel maxima crankshaft) triple weber dcoe45's , heated power recaros, 5 speed from zx, 411 rear end from 200sx turbo, dynoed at 270hp at the flyweel, then put haltech injection on it, coilovers, panasports and ran it in SCCA for several years, but I was young and poor in comparison to some racers, so I just drive it.....oh and it still is sitting in a storage building of my fathers in Atlanta close to 20 years later...maybe if the wife and I ever have kids I'll pass it down, otherwise it'll sit....

First one of my very own, was a 56 GMC panel 4X, was painted Forest service green, but had a 349, big block in it. Four speed with a granny first, kick the transfer in low and it had a serious low gear and torque. Came home one day and found it gone and junked, my father figured I was trying to make babies in the back. :woohoo:

First Car:
1966 Pontiac LeMans - black/white - purchased with my paper route money for $150.00 out of a back yard. No clutch, no bell housing. Scoured the boneyards and nabbed all the correct stuff. Had it in my driveway and running like a top before I had my drivers license in 1978.

Since then:
1971 camaro - 6 cyl 1 bbl carb - ran like a top

1994 XJ - bone stock 4x4 - brand new - NP242 D30 CH 8.25

1997 Infiniti QX4 - POS gas guzzlin underpowered ricer
1998 BMW 528i - ultimate driving machine - heavy and smooth, extremely well built and refined crafstmanship. Sold it for the new XJ.
2000 Porsche C2 996 - there is no substitute
2001 XJ - Limited NP231 Dana 30 Chrysler 8.5, REBB

Fun thread ....

1964 Corvair Spyder Sedan, Factory Turbo Charged (Rajay), Carter side-draft, w/close ratio 4-speed, white with black interior. I was 15 ... bought it for $350 with the money I earned from mowing lawns and staining the open beam ceiling on the family house addition.
