What was done to YOUR rig(XJ/MJ) today MECHANICALY????

OK just came from town. Last time I drove it It was overheating. Bad thermostat I think. Replaced with OEM. The temp gauge, if accurate, was reading lower than normal bit less than 190 all the way. No problem... got home and smelt antifreeze :( popped hood and it seems steam is escapeing at the radiator cap is that normal? Also felt top hose... was very hot but seemed like hard / full. Am I missing something or is this normal?

Bad cap or bent flange where the cap screws on

My junk has had a rusty's trackbar and bracket as long as I've owned it. Many ROM's ago, I won a TNT trackbar and brace but opted for the above the axle option because I planned on doing all that fancy steering stuff. About 2 ROM's ago, I won a clayton HD trackbar with no bracket.

Whenever that was a few months ago that I did a tear down on the heep and just stopped working on it, I also took off the rusty's crap and mounted up the frame side TNT bracket. I then swapped out the tnt rod end onto the clayton trackbar so that it would mount up. This also involved drilling out the axle side bracket and using the supplied much larger flagnut. I never successfully got the trackbar into the frame side bracket. I realized why today and it's because it's shifted to be "in front of" the axle for above the axle mounting.

So I can't go back down to the rusty's without plating over the drilled out hole. Now I think I have a line on a HD bracket front TNT of all peeps that I can get tomorrow and get it all squared away. Thanks to exxonvaldeeznuts if it works out.

I replaced the bolts, pins, and rubber boot things on my front calipers. No more rattling noises!!!!!!! (outside the jeep anyways...)

Went to O'reilys to get the 4wd ball joint kit, and it was little better than what I already had. I rented it anyway to try. It is not as loose as what I was using, but not the proper tight fit it should be for pushing in the lower ball joints.

Went to Monument Chevrolet to pick up $107 belt tensioner for the 2001 Saturn ( after 4 bad ones from AZ and Ebay, I had had enough), and after the 20 mile round trip they tried to give me the wrong damn part. :rattle:
Got to go back tomorrow. He said the one I need is $167 for a part Ebay sells for $27 and was not in stock so I wasted my time calling ahead. I complained and got a discount :-) Still got to drive back there a second time to get it :(

Interesting that they are open in the parts dept till midnight !!!!!

My daughter moved to Detroit in late Dec, and her boyfriend up their works at GM as a mech engineer. She needed a car and he used his GM benefits to lease her a chevy cruise for about $67/month for 24 months, and about $75/month for insurance. I may move to GM-Detroit LOL. :D

I think she may have found a winner this time

I know on the renix systems you're supposed to park it facing downhill and remove the temperature sending unit or least loosen it until water comes out. I don't know if the later open systems are any different.

It is "supposed" to automatically get it out with the overflow tank. Procedure is start it with the radiator cap off and continue to fill until it cannot hold anymore. Put cap on and fill overflow tank to appropriate level. Let it fully warm up and it should bleed off any air into the overflow tank.

Roger are you driving or trailering it to hidden falls?

I have a radiator vacuum thing I can bring

So....my xj moved out of the garage for the first time in 6 months. I feel like you guys are gonna have film of bigfoot in the wild or something seeing me out wheeling.

Hmmm left rear blinker doesn't work and the left front click double fast. But swapping the bulb out with a known good one doesn't help. It also doesn't click on with the hazards. Combination flasher or ground?

It must be contagious?

This is a Wagoneer, 4 head light bulbs, two are high beam two low beam, different bulbs, they do not interchange. one each had a hole in the glass, but they tested good. I had lost all head lights and the turn signals. Still had flashers and running lights and brake lights. one brake light bulb was bad on the brake light side of the bulb, and one front running light worked on flasher mode but not turn signal mode.

First thought was the head light switch, they are notorious for going bad. But I checked the head light bulb sockets in the harness for grounds and power, and both the white and black wires at the head light bulb (bulb disconnected) were all a dead short to ground with the head light switch off.

?????????????? Looked every where for blown fuses and damaged wires, no joy. So I got thinking maybe the short is in the head light switch?

BINGO!!!!
:D New head light switch and I now have head lights. Got to get one of those amazon harness kits on this rig like I did the 85 and 89.

But still no turn signals. Odd that both seemed to die the same day. Also the turn signal power (as well as about 5 other loads) bypass the ignition switch on this rig, and the 30 amp toggle switch and other loads all work fine. So I guess the steering column switch needs cleaning????

I have flashers and the two round flasher-blinker relays both work on the flasher line. So it is not the blinker relay. Anything else it could be????

My new radiator E-fan just arrived. Amazon prime rocks!!! Got it hear in about 48 hours, free shipping with amazon prime -:)

Hmmm no telling there.

I replaced the combination flasher and still have no fear drivers side blinker. But the front one went back to regular speed. So weird.
