What was done to YOUR rig(XJ/MJ) today MECHANICALY????

Well it is legal to drive on the road now. Got the inspection and registration taken care of this morning. Noticed a problem though if my defrost or ac is on it won't start worth a crap it starts and the idle drops below where it can stay running. Time to troubleshoot, any ideas?

Check for a vacuum line break (thus leak) and / or missing check valve at the firewall near the heater core and AC expansion valve where the engine vacuum supply enters the firewall to feed the dash vacuum operated damper door controls and valves. Check the AC compressor for bearings going bad, loose serp belt

Had to replace a 2 YO Durajunk battery on the diesel today. Cost $0.00 :-)

Hope to swap the diesel clutch assy tomorrow and finish some odds and ends on the saturn and ford. Plan to pick up a load of used OEM jeep stuff in Cypress from an old friend on Sunday or Monday from the used forum here. I have room for the stuff right now and most of it is still for sale. Contact me if interested. I have a lot of other OEM XJ stuff still for sale too. The engine and stand are going to friend already to restore his first jeep, a real nice 95 Grand Cherokee. The rest is for sale...

Got my 1985 FrankenJeep, Nissan-Cherokee LOL, transmission pulled and the new clutch package installed. The transmission goes back in tomorrow, weather permitting, and then we see if the OEM clutch (Pedal) is easy enough to push for me to use this beast again with my weak knees and weak legs hasta(Rheumatoid Arthritis from hell that nearly killed me the last 3 years).

I have high hopes for this!!!! Happy M day Red River folks and Naxja!!!!

May have finally gotten the tricks figured out for solving the 5 degree out of spec issue on the camber on the Saturn's new struts, steering and suspension parts that threw out the camber by 5 degrees.

Cut and rolled my rear wheel openings yesterday and took her out for her inaugural run. So nice having good tires and ground clearance.

After fooling around Offroad for a while my oil pressure just sat at 20. Going to change the oil and filter and see if something got into the filter.

Trans got got again as well. Fluid change and trans cooler need to get installed.
Overall though it was a good time.

dantheman, Just got mine legal last week and me and the kids have been driving I noticed low pressure at idle when it had been running for a while, an hour or so. Did a bit of searching and read that at idle the spec is 13psi...no noises shuttering etc so I reckon it is all good. I was worried, but I know my mains are in spec and it's pressure is within the normal limits so I guess I will roll on with my plan.

balancing beads in the tires work awesome. had it up to almost 60 without any vibrations in the tires or the driveline. tracked straight and the wheel returns to center on its own. not bad for my first alignment!

took it out to a piece of property and tested everything out. my friend has a couple videos ill link once he uploads them to youtube.

and of course my two buddies with JK's who went out with me egged me on into taking it across a ditch that with all this rainwater and flooding we are having was basically a creek and it ended up looking like this after i got stuck.

otherwise the suspension and tires did work and it made it everywhere i pointed it.

need to get the trans cooler installed as the trans got hot again. oil pressure stays around 20psi now. going to change the oil and filter and hope that i just dislodged some gunk with all the 4000+ rpm stints it did out there. Other issue was when i splashed into a big puddle to rinse some of the mud off the tach went to 0 (engine was still running but sputtering) and when i came out of the puddle it was stammering for a few seconds. after a couple revs it normalized. guessing the distributor got a little damp. was planning on doing plugs, wire, cap and rotor soon anyway so thats on the list now as well.

just empty every pocket.

chemsoldier, im not worried about it being around 20 at idle, it was 20 at 3000rpm that i was mildly concerned with. hoping the fluid/filter change sorts it, if not ill dig into it deeper.

20 PSI oil P is worrisome, try a new filter. My STP filter was clogged and was causing low pressure 2-4 weeks ago. Oil pressure doubled with a new K&N filter. I always use K&N racing filters, but had to grab what was on the shelf one day last year. Back to K&N now.

Not familiar with balancing beads.

We completed the 85 Cherokee-Nissan-SD22 diesel clutch replacement, with out much trouble :-)

Clutch peddle is about 30-50% softer now :-) :rof:with an OEM clutch assy, not as soft as I want to make it for DD use in 5 o'clock stop and go 2 hour traffic jams, but a huge improvement for now over the heavy duty clutch I installed 12 years ago (which lasted about 75,000 miles and was still OK, the throw out bearing was getting dry though). At least I can make short local trips with it know if my left knee is not hurting.

Changed my coolant again, it was looking poopy. PO must have put some stop leak in it or something... Recalibrated my TPS, it was a little off giving me some off idle hesitation. Running smooth and revs freely again!

WIX filters, I trust them now. After a FRAM filter collapsed on me...dumb FRAM

Today figured out where the leak was on my WJ power steering pump, got a new one ordered and now waiting for that to come in tomorrow...so I can do it all over again...

Napa gold is the same as wix btw. Those two are the only ones I run.

Drove mine to work yesterday. Wish I had the funds to fix stuff. D:

I wish mine would stop testing my wallet for a bottom :(

Installed the new TPS on the ford, only to find the power steering is now too hard to use, no doubt OLD the suction hose/inline filter I reused when doing the transmission work.

Rechecked the Saturn Camber alignment I did standing on my head in a slopped busted up driveway, LOL, checked it on a .05 degree slope pretty flat spot and aired up the low tire, and I am now only 1 degree off the two tires on Camber. Any better will take a frame-body shop welding/cutting job I fear. Unless I have bad new struts and ball joint arms (out of factory spec?) after market china junk from Rock Auto? But these areas of the Saturn did hit curbs and damage tires and rims so I suspect it is subtle frame slop...Need to road test my rubber CV-Joint boot repair on the high way next, then if OK, get the toe in set at a computer-shop.

Checked the front passenger tire-brakes (they were OK) and drove the 87 again looking for a grinding noise source while slowly stopping at 15 to 0 mph in forward only. The rest of the brakes will get inspected tomorrow.

Diesel 85 XJ Cherokee Pioneer got one minor thing done, one left to do (battery post clamp) then she gets a real road test :-)

Getting tired of all these repairs I am.

im also feeling the pain of the multi car life.

cherokee needs the trans cooler, fluid change, oil/filter, hood louvers, and the rock rails.

tahoe needs brake pads and rotors and a wheel bearing. have the parts just need a dry day to install them.

Lexus needs a once over and a trans fluid change. and probably a drivers side window regulator. works but makes a ton of noise going up and down. just not sure i want to invest any money i dont have to into it since i plan on getting rid of it in a year and a half and getting something newer.

my GTO needs front lower control arms, havent ordered them yet, 350 bux for the pair. the rear diff is also howling really bad. i have a spare on the shelf but again, time/dry weather to install. Though its in the garage i could technically do it inside with teh door shut.

wifes gto needs a transmission. we got one built for it that was supposed to be all billy badass almost 2 years ago. it lasted all of 1000 miles over 14 months. transmission shop says "well you are outside your warranty period but we might help out on parts" 12k mile 12 month warranty. siiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. she is trying to decide if she wants to add more power to it or not as that will effect our decision on what to do with this transmission situation.

Got my WJ power steering pump finally installed. The second one didn't leak like a water fall unlike the first one did.

Now to address the front driver side caliper, as when I stop I go to the passenger side, and I still have a pretty good vibration on the rear, not sure if the axle is bent or not.

Jack up the rear end, start jeep, put in drive and see if any of the wheels are wobbling. Leaf spring/shackle bushings are good?

I put them on jack stands and there is a very slight wobble. That's why I got the axle shafts from ya, just needing time to put them in.

Leaf springs/shackle bushings are the stock ones. They could be bad. Didn't think about them. I have some lift shackles that I've had for like 10 years too, never put them on lol

it was actually two days ago, but i did some exploring of some old roads around here. the top of a hill on this road in particular, is where my fiancee and I ended our first date five years ago. luckily the view hasn't been spoiled so we can have our engagement photos taken here.

Pulled my headliner, what a disaster! PO used double sided tape to try to attach the vinyl and cardboard to the liner...ugh most of the firmer part of the liner came off with the tape. Began repairing with fiberglass resin until I ran out, also added a bit of matting in strategic locations to improve the strength. I added some strips of wood on the back that are .020 thick to also help stiffen the poor old liner. A lot bigger project than anticipated for sure.
