parenthases (sp) first, always, PEMDAS, i think was the thing back in school

it's 2

stop doing your kids homework for them

it wasnt my kids homework. im only 24 no kids and think it is two as well. some of the arguments are ridiculous but i have been out of school for a while so feel i could be wrong too. so wanted to see what anyone else thought

air must be thinner than I remember out in CO

288

Have the same discussion going on in my local Jeep club.

the link, the () create a multiplication which puts it in the denominator, tell big dave his sister should choose another career

according to the laws of math the first step will leave it standing as 48/2(12)
then 48/24

math without application is dumb.

i refuse to attempt.

i hear ya, but that attitude is what's gotten our country where it is today!
im an ameriCAN, i CAN DO basic math.

this thread reminds me of an old friend who refuses to admit a thumb is a finger. 'its not a finger, its a thumb!'

PURE RETARDATION.

put the equation into google and came upon threads in phsyics and math forums, can't understand a XXXXing thing they are saying but they are all split.....but with really fancy arguements for each side

ya i saw that too....

i think its all about how its written. its not written well so both sides can be argued....

and those guys are all wayyyyy smarter than me

In PEMDAS multiplication and division have the same priority
so you do parenthesis then exponent then M/D then A/S
Parenthesis 9+3=12
M/D Left to right because we speak english (and that's the rule)
48/2 = 24 * 12=288
