So im doing this paper for school about 4-wheeling, ya ya i know lol. But i need some quotes from people. What does 4-wheeling mean to you? Or what does 4-wheeling do for you? If you could answer both of them and just tell me what you think, it would help alot. Thanks guys

to me 4 wheeling is me driving my vehicle into out of the way places where vehicles weren't necessarily intended to go. I may have to modify my vehicle to do so but that is what makes me happy.

when i first started 4 wheeling was a way for me to get away from it all. now that has evolved into a fun sport which i highly enjoy and im sure i will continue to enjoy it for a long time.

I have Becker's Muscular Dystrophy. So Four Wheeling is a way for me to enjoy nature. Since i can't do a lot of things it gives me the adrenaline rush i need to keep me sane at work! I also enjoy knowing that my Jeep can go places 90% of people will attempt take a vehicle with little or no modification. This is a great topic for a paper. More people need to enjoy it and less people need to try and stop it! Those enviro-nazi's don't think about people like me who have physical limitations!

Man Vs. Nature In Machine.
-As for what it does for me... Well I work Law Enforcement and really have a hard time "letting go" of things sometimes. I have a lot of things I do to release my stress but nothing comes close to hitting the trails and crawling rocks for hours at a time. Concentrating on nothing but the line in front of you and nothing else does wonders for your psyche.

a way to get away from the city with some friends and experience the great outdoors

also gives you a serious adrenaline rush and a feeling of accomplishment when you finish a trail, its also a team building excersise with the other guys in the group

To me, 4 wheeling is the entire experience: Assembling adult Lego's and riding slow-motion on nature's roller coasters. It is thrilling from all aspects. Then we come to the people who off-road; mostly all have smiles on their faces and a kind word or helping hand or both!

Good luck with the paper.

My experience has been the same as most others. What one should find peculiar is that when we role or break this vehicle we have invested countless hours and many dollars (and often much blood and frustration) in, we still smile and laugh...all be it after we change our drawers. I don't think I recall a wreck that didn't end in bloodshed not ending in a smile.
It's also a test of our engineering abilities, concentration and juevos grandes. It's freedom in a cage. Just my $.02

Like fourxfour79 said, it's freedom. To me, off-roading in my XJ is similar to going out on a boat in the ocean....no roads necessary. I love doing both.

For me, it means just going somewhere not heavily traveled were you cant get with a car and just having fun with friends, forget about the world for a couple hours.

I actually wrote a little bit about this subject for a college essay a couple years ago.

For me its getting out and enjoying time with friends, having a good time out in nature, and seeing places that normal people don't really know about.

I also enjoy it because its a battle in more than one way. You build your Jeep, then you go out and wheel and see if the choices you made in modifying it were wise or not. You see which modifications where well spent, and work well to your advantage, and which ones not so well. You then see if your work (especially if you have done custom work yourself) is up to par and can hold up to the beating you put the Jeep through. (It was a great feeling of joy when I had done my first run on the HP44 I built and geared. I got through the run without breaking anything, and the gears I set up held up fine)

The other battle is with the terrain. You have to use logic to get thorugh the obstacles, and constantly adapt to the situation at hand.

Oh ya, its also fun to have people think you are mentally insane after you show them the terrain you drive on, the situations and stucks you have gotten yourself in, and just the things you do.

Offroading is freedom...
You get to take a break from everything else around you. It could be a social experience because of all the b.sing we do about parts and plans.

Four wheeling is pursuing my interest in the natural world, accessing remote areas, being self sufficient, using creativity to build a rig like no other, and most of all, freedom.

For me, its a bonding experiance. Anyone who goes on one of my (not large event) runs will tell you, it doesn't matter who shows up at the trailhead, when you guys hit pavement again everyone is best friends for life.

Well said Cal I have met a lot of great dudes from all over when wheeling with the NAXJA guys!

I agree with everyone so far. There are few things i enjoy more than spending a day cruising the back country in a custom designed vehicle (a.k.a. the trusty ole' XJ).

here's a qoute =p
" four wheeling lets me cool off, when i over heat i kill people" haha

I completely agree with what this statement intends to convey, but in the wrong minds *could* be interpreted way out of context......

Not criticizing you at all redneckboarder, don't take it the wrong way. I just read that and it hit me weird.

wow guys this helps a ton, thanks so much for everything you guys have told me. Keep the answers comin if you have any.

But for me 4-wheeling!! its pretty well been all said. It helps me get away from all my problems, and troubles that are going on. I dont have to think about them till im done. But for that time frame i feel free.

4-wheeling means looking down on people, usually people in Hondas.
