I just bought gas tank and transfer case skids thru e bay and this forum for my 90 xj.

I now need to install them. Anything special about it.

I assume the OEM gets installed by simply removing some bolts and putting them back on with the gas tank skid. Is that correct or do I have to do more.

It looks like I need some hardware to go witht he OEM transfer case skid.

What type of bolts etc. do I need.

Any web instructions available about the istallation process for these skids.

The tank skid will require the nut rails in the frame,a left and right,a dealer part $15.00 or so.Pulling the rear bumper to get to the end of the frame helps.Do a search and you can find the part#s and a lot more.
The X-case skid if it is stock,is ok but not the best.It needs "nutserts"installed in the frame rails to bolt into.A very hard to find item in my neck-o-the woods, and the tool to install them.
I use the Rustey,s X-case skid and find it Ok and easy to install and covers much more than stock.
Do a search and find what you need.

Take a look under your XJ. A lot of them have the nut-serts already installed. Just get a couple of bolts that are the right size and put them in. It may help to clean the threads off first with a wire brush or a tap.
