What did you do to your XJ today

Nice steering setup. I have been thinking about that setup from IRO for awhile now. Looks good have you driven the jeep yet since you did that?

Haven't driven it yet, no. Planning to by the end of the week though. I look forward to seeing how she drives with steering that doesn't roll like crazy.

Oddly enough I had a guy come in on Friday looking for a solution to fix his rolling IRO setup. Had been on a week and the heims were shot, giving him massive slop and death wobble. And no, according to him IRO wouldn't stand behind their product.

I can only hope that's because he failed to install it correctly. These suckers have to be on pretty darn tight, and if he didn't use a torque wrench, I wouldn't be surprised.

Did he have the 5/8th upgrade kit? Because that's what I'm running.

I've heard nothing but good things about their steering from people who have been running it for awhile, so I'm hoping for the best.

Tight has nothing to do with the swivels being loose inside the housings of the heims. I don't know about 5/8" upgrade kit because I'm not intimate with that particular product. If it needs an 'upgrade' then perhaps IRO should offer it that way as a standard. In this case, this guy just bought what the collective on the Internet told him to. :) I hope the best for you, too.

Tight has everything to do with it, the washers prevent the heims from TRYING to over rotate which would loosen them up/stretch the metal/wear them out faster it would seem. And FWIW, most of the reviews I've read were from guys who did the 5/8th upgrade kit. It's not standard because it requires drilling...which not everyone wants to do.

Regardless, if no one bought products which one customer was unhappy with or had a bad experience with -- no one would buy anything. Only time can tell how this product will work for me.

Rod ends are meant to rotate. Washers are on there incase they seperate, they wont come flying off. You should ditch the normal washers and use 'safety washers'. Mine rotate and don't wear quickly, even DDing it. Quality rod ends make a huge difference in strenght and longevity. Keep them clean after running through dirt/mud/sand and spray them down w/ WD40 or similar lube and they'll last longer.

Safety washers?
Can't say I know what you'r talking about. Enlighten me.

But yeah lubing them I hear is key. I figure I'll buy some ruffstuff heims for spares in a worst case scenario.

Only need them in single shear applications, which your steering has. I highly suggest them.

Also, I'd run QA1 rod ends. May be more expensive(not by much), but they are a quality rod end. Midwest Control rod ends are cheaper, but work well also.

Good to know, thanks. I don't have much experience with heims.

I'll grab the safety washers for sure, probably get the QA1's down the road. Maybe order one for a spare for now. The current ones are supposed to be pretty decent...so I'll run those will their dead.

My joints don`t work like they did a few years ago :dunno:
I refiled the rearend now I`m changing the front diff oil.and replaced brake shoes that the brake material came off the metal shoe.

just put the 91 cooling system in my 90 cherokee now going to put in my new 100 amp alt, new power ground cables sweetend up with a new red top. And if I have time figure out how to put in my new headliner since I have a sun roof...... good times.

New Exhaust Much better then the stock crap. I went with a walker muffler and 2.25" tubing all the way back. Dumped it out in front of the hanger but behind the tire. I will show a pic later. Sounds very nice, low tones, no droning inside, almost as quiet as stock at cruising speed. I am testing the engine running temps now to see if it runs cooler without the cat because the old one I found to be plugged up. I know I have to have one that is why its just a test. So far its running maybe 10 degrees cooler. I welded on a flange just before the cat so I can take the tail pipe off and weld one in here soon. I may post up a link for sound when I record it.

Finally got her rolling. Drives pretty well, need to put the front spacers on to get full turn back...then double check my alignment.

Next is to cut out the rockers.
