What did you do to your XJ today

IMG_0118.jpg

Love the color of your rig!
Or is it just 'white' and the photo has been processed to trick me into thinking its 'off-white' ?
Damn you, sepia tone processing!

Swapped out the old Skyjacker Hydro front shocks for a pair of Bilstein 5100's.
Why didn't I do this a long time ago?
Cause i'm a cheap f'er.
Now I need a pair for the rear.

Took the XJ through DEQ and ran two codes - P1494 and P0303. Did some research and found out the 0303 was related to a heat soak issue with my cylinder #3 and the 1494 was actually a deteriorated rubber vacuum elbow that was no longer attached to my intake manifold. So I replaced the elbow and wrapped some heat insulator sleeve around the injector... just waiting to see if that works out... I might need to add more around the exhaust manifold to triple up the protection....

I also noticed a substantial loss in MPG, I'm thinking about switching to ethanol free gas which should also help with the heat soak issue.

i had the same heat soak issues. the ford 19lb injectors i installed all but took care of that issue.

First off its been a while. Im Jimmy my old account on here was Believe&Receive. Got myself a currie stearing kit and a new steering stabilizer today trying to kill the death wobble in my 98 xj. Figured i would hop back on here and play a bit. Now to figure out how to put this thing on..........wheres scott when ya need him? :phone: :callme:

OK..this will be long with loads of Pix.
A little background. 2001 XJ, 3" RC lift, 31" tires. Getting my truck ready for a 1100+ miles drive to Florida for vacation next Saturday.
Mission: To go up against the dreaded "Death Wobble".

Started my day at 6am. Drove to the mall parking lot by an automotive store and Seafoamed her. Living in a city I couldn't do this at home because I'm scared to have the fire department called on me. Chilled at a Dunkin Donuts while I waited the Seafoam to do its magic (30* out with wind chill of 15*).

Got home and got my gear ready to tackle the front end. The most important tools that I couldn't have done with out:

First Task: Replace the steering linkages. Pretty easy with the fork and a BFH

2nd Task: Remove wheels, brakes, hub assemblies, axle shafts, ball joints

Took it driving up to 70mph. Usually i have the "DW" between 50-60mph, NOT ANYMORE!!! I can steer now with one hand with my arm rested on the window sill. No more white knuckling! Also, the steering is tighter and more responsive! I would say a great day today with a lot of accomplishments in 5 hours and doing everything curb side :thumbup1:

Now for a beer!:drink:

Tomorrow's project: Oil Change, Trans cooler install, rear drum brakes, cowl snorkel

This is why none of my vehicles are registered in Portland! Wonder when the DMV will question why my parents house in Veneta has multiple cars registered like a used car lot.

Just cleaned out the t.b. and added a bottle of injector cleaner and some gas to the tank to try and improve my mpg's. 13 mpg with 31's and a 3" lift just doesn't seem right.

Did put anything new on it yet but went to the puyallup 4 wheel drive swap meet and picked a new set of front shafts that have the 760 joints instead of the little ones I have now and picked up a tune with the same gears for $10. I also picked an air compressor for $10 :) now I just have to install it all.
