Cleaned up the Stocker after it was vandalized last night.

The zip tie on the drive shaft was a good one. I was hoping it would self clearance, but I tapped and had to cut it off. That was the last thing I wanted to listen on the drive home.

Paybacks a b*tch, that's all I can say. ;)

XJ CHEROKEE HOOD SUPPORT INSTALLATION

Total cost $20 & less than 1 hour
Skill Level Required: Slightly more than my wife (NOVICE)
EXPERT: 15 MINUTES ACTUAL INSTALL TIME

Materials:
Steel pop rivets
O’Riely Auto Parts (Kragens) Strut #SG214022 [STG-C4291]
You’ll need to get a “ball swivel” from another strut kit for the female end of the strut.
Drill/bits
Tape measure
Pencil
Temporary hood support (dowel/pipe)

Installation:
Remove the (2) hex head screws from the hood support rod (fender)
Keep the screws – you’ll need (1)
Support the hood with your dowel
Using the rear hole from the factory support rod, mount the strut base (rear hole to rear hole)
Lay the strut down in the lip of the fender
Measure on the fender lip - 14 3/4” from the swivel stud on the strut base – Make a mark on the fender with your pencil
Close the hood & transfer the pencil mark to the actual hood (this is where the stud on the “ball swivel” will align)
Open the hood & transfer the pencil mark to the inside of the hood.
Make your marks & drill holes for your pop rivets to mount the “ball swivel” bracket
(I added a reinforcement plate out of a piece of aluminum, because the rivets pulled from the sheet metal).
Drill a hole & rivet/screw down the front of the strut base to the fender
Connect the strut to the ball bracket on the hood.
Remove the factory support rod clip from the fender.

This single strut is more than strong enough to support the hood. To close the hood, you need to pull down on the side where the strut is located, as opposed to the center (to avoid twisting your hood).

I'll add some pics in the next few days.
