What are you doing to your rig - the continuing saga

Got my XJ back. They didn't match my tinted windows, but I am fine with that.
But... an electrical thing is going on...
When I start my Jeep... the dumby lights turn on, then turn off... as they should.
But... my airbag light stays on. My radio doesn't turn on, and my turn signals don't work. Either 3-10 minutes later, all work fine and aribag light foes out.

Any ideas?

Gonna take it back in Thursday. But I feel the insurance Nazis will argue it.
I feel it is a product of the steering column replacement.

Oh... more...
Got my XJ back Saturday and cleaned the heck out of it. I don't think it has been so clean inside as when I bought it. Also took all the extra 'stuff' out so it isn't appealing to theaves.
Bought a 'CLUB' to make it a little less appealing as well.
Next up... is a car alarm.
Check my 'XJ antitheft' thread if you have suggestions...

Haven't messed with either of the Jeeps recently, but I did give the Goat a bath today! :D :D

Well i got home today and parked the jeep, came out about an hour later to a puddle of oil under it.... popped the hood and there is oil sprayed everywhere on the passanger side of the motor (behind the oil filter). so i went and replaced the oil filter and oil pressure sending unit... That did nothing :flamemad:

SO now i have no idea where its coming from, or what to do.

I'm going with bad seal on the oil filter adapter for $500, Alec...

did you double-gasket the filter by accident? Pretty easy to do.

I'd bet on that, if not... scrub the whole pass side of the block down with something (I'm partial to brakleen though it eats up some paints) and fire it up, see where it's coming from.

Could also be the valve cover gasket leaking and the fan blowing it all over, maybe.

Nope made sure there was only one gasket, and we cleaned it but when it's not under load it doesn't leak. So I drive it around the block and then check it and it's coated again

I thought the dipstick was attached to the steering wheel...

If it is spraying, it is a pressure leak. Thoroughly clean things up and run it. In the past, I have blown Baby Powder onto a block when tracking down an oil leak. The oil shows right up. Not my idea, got it from my Dad. He claimed it was just how things were done. In the 1930s... Anyway, it does work for finding leaks. After, it just washes off.

Plus it will make your Heep smell nice and fresh...

Took it to my buddy tim (head mechanic at firestone) and he says the rings are shot.... and so theres blow by

Just be certain you have good flow for your PVC system. Blow by can be caused by a plugged vent tube. Those skinny plastic PVC tubes from the valve cover to the manifold plug up easily over time.

on mine, the metal fittings for those lines that screw into the intake manifold were plugged solid with varnish, soot, and general grime. Even spraying brakleen directly on it did nothing, I had to use a small drill bit on them while submerging them in a tub of acetone to make it come out.

I checked the lines before and they were clear, never thought to check the fittings until I was swapping the motor for other reasons.

The drive motor on my welder decided to quit, so while I was waiting for a new one to come in, I started on phase I of Operation "Shut Up and Chill Out!"

I haven't had carpet for a while, just Herculiner. After the drive to Ouray last year, I decided I needed to do something to quiet the interior down a bit and keep it cooler. I have heat shielding underneath, but the trans tunnel still get warm. So, I picked up a couple rolls of Frost King HVAC duct insulation (foil with a sticky foam backing) and lined the floor with it.

The next phase is to lay down some extra Mass Loaded Vinyl I had left over from a home project. I plan on the vinyl being the new final floor.
