What are you doing to your rig - the continuing saga

In this chapter I replaced a pass side motor mount and pulled replaced o rings and re installed oil filter adapter............whoohooo........

Next chapter will see driver side MM and 8.25 rear shaft and U-joints..........

getting closer....

As for tire balance just go to 4wp and buy 5 of the Equal bags for your tires ,which is probably like 4.oz a tire this constantly help balance your tires I run it in the Boggers since conventional methods are useless

Please QUIT giving REALLY bad advice!! :twak:

KRONIK, please do not put equal in your tires, you WILL regret it! Those in the know understand the fact that the steering setup on Jeeps are very sensitive.......... a poor design! They come stock with a steering stabilizer for a reason! Many here have modified their Jeeps and steering will become an issue for those that have. There are many things that can cause DW on a Jeep and poor tire balance IS one of them ( I experienced it first hand ) The list is long and there is no need to put it here! Solving DW issues will take time and patience! My approach has always been to go through EVERY probable cause and eliminate it. At some point you will find the cause. Yes, DW IS frustrating........... to say the least but please do not take poor advice simply because it is given here on an XJ forum. Your DW case could be a combination of issues like poor balance and alignment or alignment and bad joint........

Not familiar with equal but i have had good luck with the airsoft bb balancing method. That being said, on a 35" radial I see no reason not to properly balance the tire using conventional weights and spin balancing.

i know for sure the tires are unbalanced.
i know for sure the rotors a warped.
and i know i need to get my alignment checked.....

The combination of those three things will give you DW for sure!

I did the bb method and I can say for fact that some tires react well to it and some do not! I had a set of maxxis mudders that balanced perfect with 12oz of zinc bb's each. The current set of BFG's would not balance for shit( ie DW ) with any ammount of bb's!

Welcome home Ira! How long do we get to enjoy your excessive punctuation before big bro sends you to the sand box? :D Seriously, welcome home!

thank you for your help everyone!!!!

two things...

1---DO NOT GO TO 4WP

2---- DO NOT USE EQUAL

that is all.....
ive done a little bit of research and found some horror stories about equal!! i wont be using it in my tires!

X2!!!!!

I'm guessing Equal is basically similar to Dynabeads in this case. A material you put inside of your tires to "self balance" them. Very common in the trucking industry, especially in your steering tires.

When I used airsoft bb's in my 36" Iroks I used half of a 10,000count container in each tire. I'm not sure what size/weight bb they were, it was a 30$ container at walmart of clearish green bb's. I picked them because of the color. I saw great results with it actually. On my 39.5' Iroks I never bothered doing any form of balancing but they actually never really wwobbled on me either. I think the fastest I got my Jeep up to was about 60-65mph. I'm not going to bother doing them on my 42" Iroks either. One of the advantages of trailering the Jeep everywhere.

Use copper bb's. I know this is shocking, but there is a decent chance you will end up with moisture IN your tires. If you have plastic bb's or stupid power, its gonna freeze, in chunks.

You think it wobbles now? Imagine with frozen chunks of plastic or powder in there. :gee:

The copper ones have more tendency to break them selves apart if frozen. Also they wont disintegrate after smackin into one another a few thousand times, like plastic ones do.

Go to a store. get one of those $9 lil cans of copper ones. I used one per tire. You cant add TOO much - TECHNICALLY - But you dont want to overload it.

And just to reiterate.....Equal is a joke

I have had death wobble on a stock MJ. I went from no death wobble ever to horrible death wobble (it broke the pass side motor mount off the engine block... and slid the motor mounts around on the frame horns. I could see the clean shiny metal where the paint had been scraped off by the washers and bolt heads as they slid. they were properly torqued) very suddenly.

What happened? I had a blowout on a steer tire and put my spare on it. The balance on that spare wasn't even that bad. Again, solid as a rock no death wobble right to crap-your-pants loud banging rattling noises and chirping from the tires death wobble. Every time it happened I had to set my mirrors back where they were.

Keifer, that RC looks pretty awesome. I didn't really notice it wasn't a real XJ till I realized there was something up with the focus and the corners looked a little too smooth/large radius compared to the size of the vehicle. That pic with your dog 'standing on the roof' is great

fixed. lol
thanks man. it will look a lot better when it is done.

as far as the death wobble goes.... this is the first time i have experienced it. it scared the shit out of me the first time..... :scared:

now im kinda used to it but i feel like its going to start every time the wheel gets shaky...

i got my new brakes on.
my new Kevlar should come in the next couple days so my tires will go in for re balance.
then its time for alignment.:smoker:

will bb's void my warranty on my tires?
