What are you doing to your rig - the continuing saga

Tire balance will not cause DW , however it can hilite an existing probem in your set up .
Im tempted to say that is debatable. lotsa out of balance can do some really nasty stuff.

jack your jeep up so tires are in the air and spin em. find something you can use to set close to the rim to measure to see if there is a decent amount of wobble latterally at the wheel lip. a bent wheel can be causing your issues. so make sure you dont have an that are up fron that wobble

Been pretty much working to get mine ready for the trails and winter ... spending most of my time chasing leaks, and trying to figure out the ABS system from hell.

I just got me some new 42's!!!!!!!!!!! Man I need to get the money for the DIY beadlock kits already, I want to mount these things so bad.

Thanks again Chris, you really hooked me up on these things. I'll make sure to send a box of Nilla Wafers with that rim.

Rim, nillas, and an "envelope" before you can afford beadlocks, right ;). Thanks to you too, Rich, I think we both came out well on this deal.

sweet! Hurry up and get em mounted.

sick wheels! I really dig the look of the machine lip on smaller jeeps!

my death wobble has been driving me crazy.
it started at all speeds.
i had a few issues with my hub. got that fixed. took care of a few loose parts.
right now i am replacing my rotors because my old rotors are warped. not likely to fix the problem but could be possible...
i got a new kevlar ordered for my spare. when i go get that mounted i am taking my front wheels back in to get balanced.
my death wobble has been reduced to 45mph to 55mph when i pull to the left it starts to wobble. if i hit a bump while doing the same it immediately starts DW...
i do have a positive camber issue that i noticed once i switched from 33x10.5 km2's to 35x12.5 kevlars. working on getting that worked out to.

45 to 55 is generally wheel balance. While balance isn't the total answer for death wobble, it can incite it. Balljoints were the root cause when I experienced it.

Steering box bolts, track-bar mounting bracket bolts, etc etc etc.

Do you have a steering stabilizer? Because if you do it could've worn out. They don't fix death wobble but they will hide it. I purposely never ran a steering stabilizer because while they do serve a purpose they also tend to mask issues.

check, check, etc etc etc. although i do need to get my track bar bracket welded...

no steering stabilizer on this jeep.

my problem probably lies in between warped rotors, slightly out of balance tires and positive camber. i hope... :flamemad:

If none of those fix it have someone with lots of experince take a look at it while you turn the wheel back and forth. That's how i found my track bar bushings going bad again. I only get dw bad on 270 everyone that had driven that highway should know what I'm talkin bout.

Oh yeah, over near Vasquez Blvd.

I've never known Camber to cause death wobble, I've driven several cars that ran up to 4deg of negative camber on purpose. These were track cars and the reason for the aggressive caster angles was traction in the turns.

You need to check your caster though. And without that steering stabilizer wheel wobble in the front will be a lot worse.

i dont have bushings. i have heim joints on the track bar. they sem to be fine. we have looked and looked again and it seems to be all good and tight.

my options right now are tires, warped rotors or positive camber issues..
if that doesnt fix it i will look else where

thats negative camber on race cars though. mine are sitting positive. i just feel it should be sitting at zero camber....
i did get spindle spacers for it that will fix it 1/8th of a degree so my tires will still be sitting at positive 1 degree camber but it will be better...
