westward-bound, Moab in April/may 06.

nobody of any consequence
i didnt get there in the spring of 05 as i planned so spring 06 is a "GO".

we are going after the Easter Jeep Safari blows thru town so it wont be a zoo.
our dates are locked in to be departing from ct area saturday april 29th. spend the week of may 1st in Moab (hopefully wheeling with the crew of the Inter-Mountain chapter) and depart the following weekend to return home. roughly 10 or 11 day trip. if you are serious enough you are welcome to join us. but be reasonable about your rigs ability to cover 5000 miles of highway driving.

at this point we have 5 or 6 rigs going.

4 months to go!!

WOW!!! I really, REALLY would like to get out there one day. I miss driving cross country. But... work, my daughter, the dog, etc. and the fact the Jeep isn't ready for something like that yet. I'm bummed. Maybe in a few years.

Have a GREAT time!! Take some pictures so we can be jealous looking at them.

AJ, here's some pics from Mike's last trip that I have on my site.

It's been about seven years since I've been out there. I remember this one highway; it was desolate and barren, dusty and dry. I parked at the top of a hill, got out and looked at the road ahead of me as it stretched out for miles, down a long gradual grade and inclined back up another hill until it disappeared behind a dust filled horizon. There was no one around, no billboards, no signs, no towers or utility poles... can't describe it, but you know it. You really can't fathom what's out there in the rest of the country until you go find it! I have GOT to get out there again in the next few years- it's get'n claustrophobic here!

Thanks for the pictures!!

Mike, i'll let you know my status at the meet n' greet.

who's planning on going? What rigs are you guys taking? How hardcore are the trails you're taking? Do you camp or get cabins, and what kind of cost are we talking (other than repair parts) for the trip. After seeing those pics I've developed an itch. My wife has a cure for it, but it kinda feels good. - Nate.

right now it looks like 7 or 8 of us. i'm driving my XJ, the other rigs are pretty well set up. YJs, XJs, and a ZJ too. we are planning to meet with the InterMountain Chapter. i want to run a mix of HC and easy, scenic trails. anything out there is worth the trip. i am camping, and some of us are moteling.

here is the basic math i'm budgeting on:

4800 mi divided 16 MPG = 300 gallons of fuel
300 x $2.50/per gallon = $750
300 x $3.00 = $900

motel 3 nights in transit.
camping for 7 days.
food.

i am budgeting $2000 for myself. (anything left will be for my internal cage :gag: )

I may be living in texas by then, which is closer than maryland so it's possible. I'm certainly going to give it a shot. So i'm a maybe if that helps at all.

Good for you Mikey.

Trouble is, it reminds me how very much I miss the place too. My damn job situation makes any kind of planning impossible . . . but it sure is mighty tempting.

Not promising anything, but don't be terribly surprised if you see RED sneakin' up on you on 80 somewhere at the end of April. :D

finalcially i can do it, but my jeep will need a new motor b4 the trip.

looks like the Intermountain Chapter has settled on the same week to do their run. so i wont have to wing-it as trail leader. :)

But your a great trail leader.

My friend used to live in Vernal, Utah and she has shown me some pics of her wheeling out there. It's awesome. Now that she's out here, she told me we have to go this year. So, I am trying to head out to Moab this spring as well. I wouldn't be able to stay the entire time as I don't want to use up all my vacation days in one outing. I'll keep you posted.

time to revive this thread.. we are down to 33 days till our April 29th launch. we will be joining the boys from the Intermountain Chapter for their "IC on the rocks" . we have a group of about 5 rigs going and there is room for anyone else who is serious about it. maybe a lil short notice now but i'm going and it's gonna be a good time.

anyone want to loan me some money?
Do you mean "loan" or do you mean "pay your way so you can have a great time while we're stuck back here in the northeast looking at your amazing pics"? :gag:
