Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Wow! I didn't think Roanoke was going to get hit that hard...

Yeah, no thanks, you can keep that

We got "bulls-eyed". I went to work at 5am pushing snow up to the headlights with the Commander. I would have driven the trail rig but i didn't feel like digging it out. The XK did great though, its a tank!

This was our third biggest snowfall in recorded history. I have seen 27" of snow here once in 1993. It really didn't slow Roanoke down any, we are use to dealing with 12-18" regularly, so a few more inches didn't matter.

Welcome to the mountains of VA LOL!

Charlotte handled it pretty well. Only one major road had some issues, but it was shut down for a couple hours, cleared, then re-opened and all was well after that.

Raleigh on the other hand, not so much...

I saw pics of Raleigh on NC4x4, what a bunch of idiots LOL! They would have died in our conditions last night and today.

Dude it looked like Atlanta part two. I mean seriously...NC gets snow almost every winter, Raleigh is no exception. They know how this works and how to handle it. What happened? Didn't take notes from Atlanta's screw up two weeks ago either?

Most places in Charlotte were closed all day Wednesday even though it didn't start until mid-late morning, so there weren't too many people on the roads.

I had fun, but man, there are some morons in the University area. Everybody freaking walked in the middle of the road. Also, when I decided to drive (drift) through campus where it wasn't crowded (although it was crowded pretty much everywhere) a bunch of drunk ass kids decided to pelt my Jeep with snowballs, which wouldn't have bothered me if they hadn't tried to aim them in my windows, so I floored it in 2wd and pelted them with slush from the road. Same idiots also put a snowball through a plastic half door window on my buddy's TJ.

Aside from that, I had a blast. Helped push and pull people out that were stuck, and cruised around with some UNCC 4x4 guys till like 4am this morning. Only damage incurred was busting the tire off the bead on my left front on a curb, which was completely my fault, lesson learned

The plow trucks have not been through yet. They are just trying to get the primarys cleared. I shovel my driveway from 4pm to 9pm last night. Its hard to move 2' of snow.

Our street still has 2' of snow on it. All you can hear outside right now is cursing and shovels LOL!

Looking out my front bay window;

You guys(Not the mountain folk who are used to it) actually got snow this time! :D They are calling for another 3 or so inches here starting at noon and are already closing schools.......this isn't an out of the ordinary occurence here in winter so why are they closing early? I think its stupid but on the bright side, I get to test out the new air locker today! :D

We have snow/sleet/freezing rain coming our way here tonight. If we get a lot we are in trouble. I pray that the sun gets most of the snow off the trees today.

We got a few inches. Nothing major. State of emergency, of course. Everything was closed. Work closed for the first time in 15 years. I drove around the whole time. Had a blast.

Then there was this. My Dad's carport. His motorhome, my car. (It's a video. Click the picture.)

Shuttled people into work again today with the Jeep. Main roads are clear but the side roads were solid ice.

Burned half a tank in 2 days, primarily back and forth to work. Glad I don't DD the Jeep anymore!

Owners are pissed at the people who left early Wednesday and/or didn't come in yesterday. Looks like they'll be working Saturday to make up. No way in hell will I be here tomorrow...

Where do the owners live? Somewhere where it doesn't snow?

I still haven't seen a plow truck! I gave up on the Commander, its just too low to push through in fresh snow(time to lift it;)). I got the trail rig stuck GOING DOWN HILL! I hit a snow bank and it high centered all 4 were spinning but not touching pavement. I used the winch and a telephone pole to get me through the snow bank. What a day! Urban recovery LOL! And to beat all I was leaving Matt's house(hadefield4wd). He got a good laugh out of it LOL!

I dug my moms XJ out of a plow bank and showed her how to let one eat to get it out of the snow! She was like "Damn!". She didn't know a XJ could do that LOL!

I pulled out 2 other Jeeps but no Toyota's today.

Still no plow truck yet. VDOT is saying tomorrow morning for my street. My driveway is clear, the Jeep fleet is home safe.

The sun melted about half of it today.

Owners of the company announced yesterday afternoon they wanted everybody to report in today, regardless of if you came in Thursday or not. I, along with the other Engineers, raised a fuss about it with our direct supervisor, and for once he stood up for us.

The trade off is now we have to stay late every day this week. So to recap:

Wednesday: Work Thursday or if you don't, come in Saturday. (I worked Thursday)
Friday afternoon: Everybody comes in Saturday, regardless.
Friday late afternoon: If you don't come in tomorrow, regardless of if you worked Thursday, you must stay late every day next week.

So I followed the rules to avoid working today, was told at the last minute to work today regardless, but then told if I didn't work today I need to stay late next week as a trade off.

I'm failing to see the logic in this. Never mind the DAY TRIP to California I did to avoid being stranded by the storm (saving them several extra days of hotels and meals that were not in the budget for this trip), plus the countless long days in the office and in the field.

I'm thinking it's time to wrap up this chapter and begin a new one, if you catch my drift.

Third time's a charm?

Hell of a job you got there. I work for the government and only worked monday and half of Friday.

Anyways, i tackled my upper control arm bushings today. Needless to say, i still got some work for the morning. Had to burn out my old ones, press in my new polyurethane bushings, make up some curse words when i found out they were too wide to fit my upper arms, sawed off the extra, ran out of time before my honey-do-list. Can't wait to get my z71 back on the road

Our plant was closed Wednesday and Thursday. They made us come in and work today. At first they said they weren't paying us until about half of the entire staff said they weren't coming if they weren't getting paid. (We're on "Salary plus OT" so we got paid for Wed and Thursday anyway)

So, I worked today and got paid for it.
