Weekend is over...what did you get done?

pulled a bonehead move. found some oem 16x7 steel wheels on cl, picked em up this morning. put me in a great mood till i got home and measured them. turned out to be 5x5 bolt pattern. :flamemad:

these things are flawless too....oh well, the guy said he will buy them back, unless of course anyone here needs a set.....

When I did mine about a year ago I knew how much of a PITA job it was so I called a few shops around the area to see what it would run me to have a shop do it. They all quoted around $500 to do it and I must have called atleast 10 shops. I just couldn't constitute paying $500 to replace a $15 dollar seal especially when I have all the tools and skills to do it myself.
 
So all the bolts holding my valve cover down were loose. I tightened them back up. Once the cover gets loose and starts leaking oil around the gasket, will tightening the cover back down do any good, or will I need to replace the gasket completely?
 
How old is the gasket? You should be OK with just snugging the back up, but clean the area real good and keep an eye on it. If it starts leaking again then replace it. 30 minute job and I think the VC gasket runs around $20 now.

If its the cork gasket, no! If you have the rubber gasket or the "metal backed" late model (HO valve cover) gasket then yes it should stop it.

agreed 100%.

And I wouldn't be surprised if the lions share of your RMS leak is actually that valve cover leak. Mine was :dunce:

It still leaked a bit, but it made the difference from putting 4-5 quarts in it every few days... to putting a couple quarts a month in it.
 
Pulled a drive shaft flange at a yard in San Antonio. The cashier said thanks to me for my transaction. I obediently answered " yes sir" only to realize the cashier was a very manly lesbian. Awkward. Funniest part was my brother was behind me and still needed to check out!
 
I got my steel cut out for the quarter guards, just need to cut the fuel door opening out on the drivers side.

I also started on my roof sliders. The pics do not tell the story very well but when they are done....

The rails are 1-1/4x1-1/4x 1/8", crossbars are 1x1x1/8".

I cut the rails ever inch so I could get the angle iron to conform to the roof line. All 144 of those "slices" will get welded up with the rails bolted into place. Then the crossbars will get turned down on the ends to be about 1" outboard of the drip rail. The crossbars will gusseted/cross-braced. I want to keep the crossbars flat if I can so that if i want to use it as a roof rack to carry the canoe/kayaks on I can. Then I will weld in the sliders and they will follow the roof line unlike some that I have seen on here do. I'm using longer bolts and they will get plates put on them when I pull the headliner out. the plating inside the Jeep should make the mounting stronger.

It looks like crap now but it will all come together in the end.

That sounds like an awful lot of work, but it also sounds like it's going to turn out great. Can't wait to see the finished product...:viking:

I know, but it was the only solution I could think of. If you try to bow angle iron it twists. So there will be a lot of welding and clean up. But it will hold its shape after its welded.
