Weekend is over...what did you get done?

big rack that can hold lotsa stuff.

plus... who wants a small rack any ways? ;)

But i have also found a used yakima load warrior rack. I don't know which one to get

Huh huh uh huh huh you said load.

Ive run my xj without a rack forever because of exactly what these guys are saying about it being top heavy. I had a friend come off a drop at an angle nose first and he had a 35 up there it pulled him over. Another friend came down it right before him and was fine but he didn't have a rack or tire up there. Like a lot of them said it may be because of there driving styles but it has always made me weary about wheeling with one.

It is nice to have a place to put camping gear and a spare tire but what about one of those Hitch baskets? like this: http://www.amazon.com/Valley-90590-Deluxe-Hitch-Basket/dp/B0002ZY23E

Im not saying thats the brand to go for was just looking for an example.

roof baskets suck. They put your center of gravity way higher and you ll be very tippy. Gobi makes some sick racks.

The COG issue is way overstated. My Warrior Products rack with 35" spare and Highlift had very little affect on the COG and never once did I feel the rack weight would put me on my side.

The bigger issue with my rack was how tall it made the profile of the Jeep, so when I would get off camber in a ditch or against a hill the rack would catch and be ripped off. I must have had this happen a half dozen times. Then I have to deal with low hanging branches which I would have to lift over the jeep where Rigs on 44's would cruse right under.

That said I am "planning" on putting the rack back on the next iteration of the build, Great place to store gear on the trip out. I will make quick disconnects to pull the rack off when before we hit the trail.

dont get me wrong.. i dig the way a rack looks on a XJ. I just wheel my xj too much to have something catching on stuff. If i had a dd xj i'd get a rack.. like it said check out GOBI racks:

Actually its always getting upgraded.. i wheel it occasionally.. i drive the rubicon most of the time. Right now the xj is getting frame stiffeners and Sliders.
Roll bar will have to wait. I think ShortxjDoug wants to do my roll cage. after seeing Lowrange's jeep all cut up in the back.. i ll have to come up with interesting designs for when i do it to mine. Then and only then will i go Gulches to test it out LOL .. jk

Speaking of mine being all cut up... I was standing outside this morning at 7:30 staring at the Jeep. I think I decided to grab a new sawzall blade and cut a few more square feet off. :)

I doubt it. Money is tight atm and the boys might be taking their little cousin Trick or treating. I'm looking at a day trip in November.

Let me know when you go. After I finish the swap this weekend, i'd like to do a trial run before the season is over.

x2 on a run before it closes. I'd like to hit up the clean up day next weekend but I doubt I'll be able to do that.

I now have an HP 30 with Aussie locker, a Ford 8.8 with LSD and disc brakes, both axles geared at 4.10, 32" Mud King's, a 4.5" Rough Country lift, and sitting in the back of the Jeep are a brand new set of AJ's sliders that i'll get around to installing soon. Chris now has my stock axles, 3.5" Rubicon Express lift, 31" Treadwrights, and $350 of my money. Thanks Chris!!!

Now I have to get used to all the funny noises a locker makes on the street!
