Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Just got finished removing the rear platform out of the Teal B*tch, and re-installed the rear seats, and seatbelts. Its now Kid and Passenger friendly again!

Whichever engineer decided it would be ok to put in a huge torx head bolt through the seatbelts - which also sticks through the unibody and subsequently out in the elements - and then torqued to stupid specs, should be shot in the big toe with a 12 gauge. It only took 4 torx sockets to get them out, and back in.
I wholeheartedly agree, but there is a trick to them. Clean them off with a wire wheel in your dremel from below (since an angle grinder won't really fit in some of the spots) and optionally cut off all but about a thread worth of the part that sticks out past the floor and weldnut. They should come out easily, but may be difficult to get started going back in since they no longer have a nonthreaded point. If you can't get em to start, buying new ones isn't too bad. Part number (for a 97XJ but should be the same for most) is 6034 383. http://www.jeep4x4center.com/seat-belt-bolt-6034383.html

I tried to type this once already... stupid interweb.

I know now that automotive work is easier than remodeling a house. It took all day to pull out old kitchen cabinets and install 7 foot of new cabinets, countertop, sink, and replumb a bunch of crap. Im BEAT!

My rinky dink free house.

It don't look like much but that is a MAJOR improvment over the old steel cabinets and porcelain sink with 0 counter space.

Stump - won't argue that one :laugh2:

I haven't gutted my kitchen yet. I tore one wall open to simplify gutting and remodeling the bathroom but the other sections are pretty much untouched. That is changing as soon as I have the bathroom done (should be within a few days.)

It'll be nice to have a brand new bathroom that I built myself, with the exception of the walls. When I started it was a usable (barely) bathroom, at its worst I could stand in the basement and look at the clear sky, and now it's got everything except tile, paint, spackle, a sink, and a shower surround installed.

Moving the new tub in was the worst part, ~350lbs of cast iron and porcelain. It took a lot of head scratching and sweating to get it in there without calling in friends to help.

Completely random and very last minute trip to Raleigh for the weekend to see some friends. Hung out at the bar with Nick and other friends for most of the night catching up, relaxing, and forgetting about everything. Definitely a much needed mini-vacation from life.

how jeepers do weddings..... best wishes to Jarrad and Lauren Peace! great weekend for a wedding.

congrats to jarrad!!!

i see a jeep looking very similar to that in my near future.

Good lets work on mine next! lol!

What you got in mind? Did not get it done so it looks like 2 weekends. Will be in Florida this weekend. Once I get it all welded enough to flex and test it's off to Painted Paridise Farm for some testing. Maybe 2 weeks, 3 at the most.

Well right now i'm trying to figure out why the whole front end shifts, and almost clunks, as soon as I hit the brakes in reverse (such as backing out of a spot)....just haven't had any time to really work on it. Nor the space or tools for that matter. I'm thinking it's the Calipers as it's almost like they're slamming down on the pads as soon as I touch the brake pedal. I just replaced them last year too....

Down the line (i.e. before the next Crawl), I'd like to be re-geared, perhaps locked up front, and definitely have some sliders on. Never done gearing before and always wanted to learn, but again, the time factor. Could probably stand some axle shaft ujoints as i'm over 160K and they're still the original.

Lennie does all my gears. That clunk could also be the r & p and a host of other things. Bad busings too. What brand sliders or would you try and build some? I kinda like the AJ's looks with the tube. Lennie bought some 2x4 for sliders for Jeepgeek and it was pricey! Axle joints are not that bad. Just have to pull the fron end down. Maybe come on Friday... you coudl stay with us at the house. Hell get Nick to come too we'll cook on the grill too. Spend Saturday wrenching and hanging out. I have no lift but I have most of anything else tool wise you coudl ever need. If I don't Lennie does and is about 5 min away.

Tim, that is the slider I have on my Jeep and really like 'em. They look good, they install easy, and I like that they tie in, not only to the unitbody, but to the spring mounts on the back.

I did both my axles (4.10s with 8.8 rear) for about $350 from the junk yards. Pretty simple swap. Also, the Aussie locker install was cake. I'll let you know how it does in a couple weeks after I get back from Turkey Bay. If it makes a good difference (and money is available), I may try to Aussie my 8.8 before the crawl next year, too.

It should be a fairly inexpensive upgrade, $600 or so I would bet, to do all that you want to do before next crawl, if you take your time and source some jy parts.

Is it tied straight into the unibody with no re-enforcing plate?

Might be risky if you have a hard pull.

JCR tie ins on the way. Thanks for the concern. Haha.

Now I have to deal with a weird grinding noise coming from the front brakes. So only minor trails and Daily's till everything is done.
