Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Get a bigger sledge.

I've actually severely dented rotors trying to get them off, they've been stuck on that bad.

Well, turns out that on a 2WD, 1988, the rotor is integrated into the hub and you have to repack the bearings to remove the rotor. lame.

I've never repacked bearings before but this is much simpler than I thought. Well, I've gotten everything apart and that's usually pretty simple.

I always put a huge glob of grease in the palm of my left hand and my index finger thru the top of the bearing in my right hand. Then just pushing the bearing down on the pile of grease until it comes out the top of the bearing cage all the way around. Take about 10 minutes per bearing if ya do it right. :)

On a bright note, I figured out what's wrong with my starter. Or at least where the problem is.

I found that out too when I had to replace a knuckle on Jackies MJ. I like the set up better than the unit bearing actually, I just wish the bearings were a little bigger. I mean they look like they could go on a Barbie battery powered car. LOL

Yeah, it's so much cheaper to not have a sealed bearing. Quite a bit more messy than sealed bearings but whatever. I fixed the woo-woo-woo problem so I'm a bit happier. Now, I'm going to pull the rear wheels and clean/adjust the rear brakes.

Is it worth it to replace the brake hardware w/o replacing the shoes/drums?

Well, I went and took a look and it looks like all the hardware is newerish. It still has the color on the springs and everything looks pretty decent besides all the brake dust and junk. The drums have a slight drag on them, too. Guess I jsut need to check the e-brake.

Speaking of that. How far are you from a major interstate or truck stop?

Shot me a pm with a cell. I have trucks going to the midwest about once a month or more. I think they go that way. I'll see if I can get that tailgate on one. You will need to meet ther driver at his convience. Will that work?

got me a 60. soooooo gota work more to get some money to buy parts, lol.
i hate gathering parts, that the exspensive part about a build.
anyone hve a d300 they want to part with?

Had a few hours on an otherwise boring Sunday. Started on a little project I had been planning for a while. While my shop is fairly well equipped, its not big. With being said, there is not a whole lot of room for workbenches, and subsequently, my benchtop tools never get bolted down properly since I dont want to permanently tie up the space.

I saw this idea on garagejournal, and decided to go with it since it made sense.

Basically, I welded a 2 inch receiver onto my little welding/fab table, and mounted all of my tools on their own platforms, with respective 2 inch tubing for the receiver. I just slide in whatever I am using, and its secure while I use it. The only thing I didnt have time to do was finish up the rack that gets mounted to the wall to hold the items when they are not in the receiver. This will also free up valuable shelf space.

I am also going to add a couple 2" receivers on the workbench, and maybe even sink an I-beam that I have into a hole right outside the shop door, fill it with concrete, and weld a receiver to it so I can use this stuff outside if I want to (like when I am using the buffer to polish aluminum parts etc etc). If I need a VERY secure point, like for the vise, then I just put it into the hitch on one of the jeeps...

Pretty darn slick I think.

A fews pics.

The Cart: ( I need bigger casters...)

The rest of the weekend I hung out with this little thing... :)

So, where would the short have to be to cause the jeep to run perfectly but continue running once the key is out and in my pocket. It was doing this before and after the new ignition switch.

That's a feature, not a malfunction.
