Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Well I know I don't have any pics up yet, but I've been pretty dang busy. Got my new to me 99 xj sport 2 weeks ago, got hit in it 8 days later, it's lined up to go into the body shop monday. Should be done by the time I get back from scout camp that week with my boys. Picked up the lift from High2by, bought the new viper Smartstart with security. Got the metal for the rockers on order. Tore down the donor renex block down to the short block and have it on the engine stand now. It''s the donor block for the storker build. Got my 4.10s for the front axle. If I have time this weekend I'm going to strip down the old xj of it's goodies to have them ready to go on the 99. (3 skids, sye, shocks, radio, bumper, wheels/tires, 8.8,) Crystal will be placing the order for the HID's, rock lights, quarter guards, Hushmat, components, coax speakers, amps, and sub. She is also working on the art work for the vinyl going on the jeep. So needless to say I've got a lot lined up and in the works. The wreck slowed down the original time line like something fierce, but I am still aiming to have most of it done by the Crawl.

glad your alright.... how bad did it get hit? im assuming not so bad since youre still buying parts

Yeah I'm all good. Old lady pulled out in front of me as I was coming up to the intersection (I had the green of course), as she decided it was her chance to turn. Was able to swerve and miss the head to head, but she kept coming and got my drivers rear door, rocker, and quarter. Insurance sent me the check this week to cover the repair and I have the body shop lined up for monday morning before I head off to Boxwell with the scouts. Repair is almost 3X what i paid for it lol. Then again I did steal it from the guy. I'll be sure to include pics of the before, after wreck, and after repair when I start the build thread.

Got the new Jeep yesterday and was not able to get a camera until today. So far its reading a solid 18.4 mpg overall with 22-24 mpg on the highway. Goes down the road straight and has plenty of power. With todays ridiculous heat/humidity and the a/c blowing full blast it got to 215 while it was sitting in the parking lot idling for 20 mins. It needs a few things but none are mechanical so far. I am shooting for next weekend to repaint the roof (rust/paint peeling), and I need to fix the cruise control tomorrow.

I could not be happier with it for what I paid. Its a 99 Limited that I got for $3000 after tax/tags/title...

mmmmmmm Limited! I like! What's up with the exhaust pipe? That's..uhhh...not stock lol.

Sounds exactly like mine got hit...twice.

Glad it's getting fixed up. I had a Hornet alarm/remote start (made by the same company as Viper) put on my Jeep a few years ago. I get made fun of for having a "BMW Alarm" on my Jeep but I could care less. It's really nice coming out to an already warm and defrosted Jeep in the winter :D Not to mention if somebody tries to steal my stuff (again) or mess with it, i'm going to know about it and it won't end well for them.

Nice thing about the Smartstart with alarm is you can also track your car through google maps on your phone. You can also track and control multipule cars from one app.

Nice! That technology wasn't quite there a few years ago when I got mine.

I thought about getting something for my car now, but i'm not sure how that'd work with it being a 5 speed. It's already got lo-jack on it, but it's still in the PO's name and of course it's non-transferrable. It's like a one time fee of $600 if I remember correctly.

I know the Python Model 872 has settings and wiring for remote start on manual transmissions I can check into the others for you also. The only difference is there are certain things you have to do when you get out of the car so the alarm can "tell" it's safe to remote start. You can put a standard system on there, you'll just need to make sure you don't leave the car in gear when you get out.

Yeah a friend of mine in College had a standard one on one of his Integra's that was a manual. Left it in gear one day and remote started it on the way out of class. Found it jumping out of the parking spot by the time he got to the parking deck lol.

How do the starter kills work if they're actually hooked to the starter? When I had my Jeep done I kept hearing that if that was hooked to the starter and ever activated, it would zap the starter for good. Rather than taking that chance I had it wired into the brake switch so as soon as the brake is pushed to put the trans in gear, the motor shuts off (unless it's been properly deactivated). Not sure if the zapping of the starter thing is entirely true or not...

The starter kill and/or starter wire connection is usually done at the ignition switch. No issue with the start at all. All the remote starts are suppose to be connected to your brake wire so it a) can't be moved with out a key b) the system knows when to turn off and let the key in the ignition keep the car running.

Ahhh I see. Might be worth looking into versus the cost of just getting my own lo-jack plan.

Just got this thing deleivered a couple hours ago. Atlas 9K lb. two post over head bar lift. Gonna install it Father day weekend when my pops is here to help... this ought to make working on the Heeps a little easier.

Also in the middle of converting my milling machin to CNC so I can start pumping out some cool billet parts. Between all that, work, and the 4 month old, I have been BUSY.

Nice lift! Whad did that run ya if you dont mind me askin? My dad and I have been threatening to get one for his shop to make our lives easier

Thanks

Wasnt too bad for the lift. I got it from Greg Smith Equipment here in Atlanta. The Lift, 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid, and a local guy delivered it on his Rollback ($60 bucks) was $1,665.00, including tax.

Of course, I spent 6 grand getting the ceiling raised to 13 feet and finished out a couple years ago in preparation for this....

Cant wait to not work on my back so much.

Man thats much cheaper than I thought. If only my garage had high ceilings.

Hell of a lot cheaper than I had in mind too!

Now I think we've got the same issue at my dads...the ceiling might not be high enough. How high was yours before you raised it?

The first time you work on a vehicle not laying on your back will make all the money spent worth it lol.

I am so jealous of your new post and your garage! haha Congrats though on getting one! So was that price including the lift, fluid, and delivery?

My ceiling was 9 feet before we did anything to it. I raised it to 13 feet in the middle section. The lift is a little under 12 feet tall.

Here is a build thread with plenty of pictures of the garage work.

There are MUCH more expensive lifts out there, but I have no need for them. If I ran a shop where the lift got used 10 hours a day all day long, I would have gone with a more durable [expensive] unit, but if I use this this thing once or twice a month, it should last quite a long time.

This is what it will look like when its all together:
