Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Haha it wasn't too terrible, I was slowly accelerating and it just sort of started. Eased off the gas a little bit and it quit. I would have been frantic if I hadn't read so much about it on here!

Welcome to the wonderful world of straight axles! :)

It was an awesome experience, wasn't it?

you mean Coil springs and 4 link....I never had any of that when I was driving a puny little Samurai...straight axles and LEAF springs....it was much simpler...and not as many bushings to go bad or pivot points to loosen....:twak:

Got some work done on the manche over the weekend and hope to get more done next weekend with it supposed to be nice again. Got the passenger side frame stiffener about 75% welded to the frame just have to finish welding up a few holes and put a little more stiching around the edges. Got the sheet metal bent to shape, cut to size, spot weld holes drilled, and welded down to the floor. Sanded and wirewheeled all surface rust off and primered. Now just have some small areas of old rust/rot that need to be patched up and the floor will be solid. Next weekend hope to get the passenger side stiffener finished off, get the drivers side done, get doors welded together and sealed off. Would like to get the bed back on the manche and bolted down so I can start on getting the brake lines, fuel lines, and tank mounted again. Also need to get a few cans of brake cleaner and some diff fluid to put in the 44, popped the cover off and a little bit of water came out then a small amount of fluid came out after that was sludge in the bottom. Jacked it up and spun the tires and it appears to be in good shape, didn't see any damage or wear. On a side note I've heard some people on here mentioning specific kinds of diff fluid that don't require the additive to be put in for the LSD's, does anyone know what kind or weight they are?

got a ride on a B-17 flying fortress...with my 7 yr old son....:moon::viking:

Today has been a bad Jeep day. Finally got a day off that I could drop the tranny again to see whats going on with the new slave cylinder. Managed to round off one of the reverse torx bolts on the top of the bellhousing. Really don't know how to get it out. Going to look at the Bolt Out kit tomorrow, or maybe find a Dremel with that flexible extension?

It's been a bad day.

week 2 of my truck driving career. my trainer and i travelled over 1000 miles today, and will travel another 1000 miles tomorrow! woohoo! i should be done with my 275 hours behind the wheel training pretty quickly, compared to some other guys i know. oh yeah, and things are in the works to have me back in a jeep within the next few weeks. i hope that part works out!
awesome! Sounds like you have things under control.

Was introduced to death wobble last night...luckily or unluckily I found out it is only present above 55mph. Adjustable tb was ordered last night after the discovery. Headed to pull a part now to look for a trailer hitch
fun isn't it? You might be able to stop it by speeding up more, too. Most people don't have the balls to actually try it but it works. Don't try this if you don't have the utmost faith in your suspension's strength.

that blows. Should be easy to get out though, drop the tranny or engine down as far as you can and use a die grinder to slowly grind the head off till it's nearly flush. At some point the remaining metal will be so thin the head will pop off the bolt then you just have to grab the stub with a pair of vise grips or a stud/bolt/nut remover and unscrew it.

Finally found another tire to replace the one that has three plugs in it, all in the same hole by the way. I have put about 7k miles on the plug with little problem. I did think it was leaking a bit but when I took the tire off I found another nail. It will get another plug and be my spare. Found the tire on CL, it was brand new off the back of a TJ and had never been on the ground. Now I only need to find one more to have a decent set, it is just so hard to find 30x9.5 in tires. After paying $40 for this one I still only have $100 in all five rims and tires so I can't complain.

It's ALIVE!!!

same hillclimb I mentioned before, but with no snow. The tree I drove up at the top is the one that stole my mirror last weekend.

33s, no lockers, stock axleshafts and ujoints, stock control arms and steering (except for a V8 ZJ tie rod), stock diff covers, no armor, and I just can't kill the thing.

Well I purchased a new Dremel and cut the bolt off. Felt much better after that. Now having issues with the original problem, the lines into the internal slave. I can't seem to get the lines in far enough to install the retainer spring. I swear it's like there should only be one o-ring on the line to fit, but the kit came with 4 (2 per line), my buddy swears he found two in the fitting of the old slave, and the one reference I have found says two per line.

Any experience with this? Before you say it... no I don't have time nor money to swap to an external unless you have one sitting ready to go.

Good lord...

found a Bridgeport Milling machine on craigslist in Kentucky; friend with a rollback and I made the 200 mile trip up to get it and made it back safe. Found a DC motor on ebay to replace the 3 phase motor. Looking forward to getting it set up and making some chips. Opens up a whole new world for projects!

Not as productive as I would have liked this weekend, just a couple things done on the jeep. I did get the new garden planter box done for my wife and built an extension cord for the welder to run it off the dryer plug until the electrician can wire the garage for 220,
I was able to buy my seats and received some Bling from the UPS guy...

And we won our Softball game tonight despite my pitiful plays….

dang buddy, you drive about like i do! point it where you wanna go, and floor it! that's what xj's are for.:scottm:
I didn't quite floor it actually... :gee:

yeah, I'm somewhat known for having a heavy right foot around here. Haven't broken anything since last July when I blew up a horribly rusted dana 30 (ripped all the brackets off, they were on their last legs.) People tell me I'm an idiot and gonna break something, or an idiot and can't wheel, or an idiot and have no business even trying an obstacle... and then I prove em wrong. Well, the breaking part, or the can't wheel part, or the trying an obstacle part, I'm not sure if I'm helping my case on the idiot front.

The 96 was nice and clean and didn't have a single dent when I bought it, I intended to drive it for the rest of my life. Then last May I pulled the carpet up to install wiring and found a basketball sized rust hole through the floor, frame, and shackle hangar. So I booger welded it back together and have been having a blast beating the hell out of it since then. I look at it like it's a terminal cancer patient with a year left to live, why not take up luge and skydiving? Gonna die either way!

I finally bought myself a Jeep :) That counts right? It got new beefy floor mats, a tank of gas, new tailgate struts, hella 500's and I ordered some gutter mounts and steel to weld up a roof rack for my kayaks.

Its a 98 Classic w/ 106k in really clean condition. I'll post pics when its not crappy out and my wife didn't steal the camera...again

Nice! My old man scored an ACER from the company he works for when they were getting ready to scrap it a few years ago. Paid next to nothing for it and it runs just as good as new. Has definitely helped when it comes to those odd ball projects!
