Weekend is over...what did you get done?

SYE on the 231j no DS yet but my pinion angle is 15degrees and my TC yoke is 5 degrees. It's a double cardigan that's not installed yet, anyone have some advice for adjusting it ? I've looked at tom woods site but I can't find any info on degrees without DS installed. 4.5 lift, 1.5 shackles on the rear. 31" tires.

Yeah, well I expect you to know more about Jeeps than Jeep knows about Jeeps.

Just checked my 95 FSM its 175 lb ft. I was wrong. Jeep is right.

Are you serious!?!?!?

It calls for 175 lb ft of torque on the little tiny tie rod nuts??? They are like 7/16"...

Oh no I was thinking hub nuts. I'm sorry here is the correct torque the tie rod on drag link to knuckle is 35 ft lbs and the tie rod to drag link is 55 ft lbs. On the drag link the knuckle gets 35 ft lbs and the pitman arm ets 55 ft lbs. The clamp on the tie rod gets 20 ft lbs.

So I"ll max out my 150 lb tq wrench then add a 14" bar for an extension and take it to 2 clicks...sounds about right to me for a tie rod nut!

Just kidding.
I'm looking forward to getting this thing on the road and on the rocks.

I crank the shit outta them with a 1/2 ratchet. When it feels about right I check the position of the hole for the cotter pin and torque further till it lines up with a notch in the nut, then pin it. Never loosen a nut to line up the cotter pin hole, if you do that you have to pop the taper out again and go through the process from the start again.

If I recall correctly, we did the opposite when working on flight controls. You torque it then if you can't make it to the pin slot you back off...of course that's just the controls bellcranks on planes and not tapered wholes in my steering.

week 2 of my truck driving career. my trainer and i travelled over 1000 miles today, and will travel another 1000 miles tomorrow! woohoo! i should be done with my 275 hours behind the wheel training pretty quickly, compared to some other guys i know. oh yeah, and things are in the works to have me back in a jeep within the next few weeks. i hope that part works out!

Was introduced to death wobble last night...luckily or unluckily I found out it is only present above 55mph. Adjustable tb was ordered last night after the discovery. Headed to pull a part now to look for a trailer hitch

Did you need a change of shorts afterwards? Experiencing death wobble is basically a right of passage for owning an XJ lol.

I finally got a chance to replace my wheel cylinders (one of which had been dead for several months)....no more wandering/grabbing/locking up when hitting the brakes!
