Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Just got back from moving my buddy into his new place in Cullowhee NC, heading to Irmo SC to help my uncle do the headliner in his XJ tomorrow, stopping by Charlotte on my way home Tues night, then moving my sister to Boone NC later this week. Needless to say, I have some highway time logged/ahead of me.

WHere you going to be this weekend? Dave and Lennie will be at URE camping on Friday and I'm making a day trip on Saturday.

:( I wish I had enough of a life outside of work to be able to go. Tho, it would suck if I went this weekend and April fell thru the passenger floor board. Can't have that.

Finally got my second XJ back up and running... The turdy five blew up a while back. Scored a d44 from another naxja member. Did the ZJ disk conversion and installed it this weekend. Wife is stoked that I finally got the d44 off the back porch....

painted and finely put on

I'm going to be in Boone Saturday, heading back to Cary that afternoon. I could do URE Sunday, but I have a feeling I'm just going to want to have a day at home by that point.

Yea I can see that. I'm just going for the day.

drove the waggy from nashville, tn to tybee island, ga! she made it there and back with no problem! :party:i only got about 7 mpg, though, which came out to about $500 in gas:cry:
i had fun, but dealing with the wife once she realized we were getting such crappy mileage was a nightmare!
so now we have about $100 bucks to last us about a week, whih doesn't scare me, but i'm catching all kinds of hell from her about it, because her car gets 40 mpg.
long story short, in the next couple years, my waggy will be getting a cummins 4bt swap, which should get me close to 30 mpg....

I feel your pain, 5mpg diesel adds up fast.

Speaking of which, apparently I've been driving a 5 cylinder multifuel for a week or so. Discovered Tuesday night that the rhythmic hissing noise I have been hearing was air escaping from cyl #6 via a 2" long chunk of blown out head gasket. No water in the oil, no oil in the coolant, great oil pressure, still does 50mph on the highway, hasn't lost any coolant or any significant amount of oil so I am buying gaskets and hoses and will likely get the head milled, throw a new gasket in, and button it back up.

hahaha, I haven't done the speed limit since just after I bought it.

Read the manuals and the military specs the engine as having a redline of 2600rpm, but only expects the engines to last a couple years. The original engine manufacturer specs it at 2200rpm max constant operation. It runs 2600rpm at 52mph, I usually keep it to 50 or below which is about 2500 max. Once I get 46" tires onto it (that's the plan, not sure if I can afford it, may end up with another set of 42" NDTs) I'll be able to do about 50 at 2300rpm, which will make the engine last way longer.

Seeing as the engine weighs 1800lbs... I want it to last as long as possible. They can usually be picked up for under 800 dollars in good used shape but I have nothing to cherry-pick an engine that large.

We've already been over this... :p
yeah... it's just something that constantly worries me :shiver: I am used to having all the spare parts and tools on hand to fix damn near anything on my rigs, including most of a spare drivetrain, this whole "if it blows up I am paying a hefty towing bill and even then can't get the new parts to it, or into it, because they are too heavy" thing is new to me.

If I were to play this the way I normally do I would buy a 5 ton wrecker next, but I simply can't afford to have more than one vehicle that large... hell the way things are going I can barely afford this one.

Either sell it to me or quit bitching like a lil school girl! ;)

Started chopping the floor out. I managed to cut a good bit of it out. I still have to cut more and clean everything good enough to weld to. I cut a rough outline of the sheet I'll start with.

I still have to drill holes for all the plug welds to the unibody and drill holes for the seat mounting bolts.
