Weekend is over...what did you get done?

hahaha, I have seen that link more than techno jeep since I got this thing :roflmao:

It is in fact an awesome build though.

Is he selling 5tons or deuces? I was really looking for a deuce, the best one I'd found was one a steelsoldiers member was going to sell me "sometime, after he put the new engine in it" (i.e. gonna be a while since it was a fun side project) for 2900. I ended up with a 5 ton for about the same amount after paying for enough gas to drive down/back and enough diesel to drive it back.

I'm not exactly sure. If you're at all interested in anything he might have I can give him a call or I can give ya his number.

At this point I have enough heavy iron I think... only thing I'm looking for at this point is parts to fix what I have.

Finally!!! I drove it again today after a year of sitting. Thanks to help from you guys and special help from April, my girlfriend. Also, a big thanks to Shaggybob for coming thru quick with some stocker spider gears for temp use.

Yanked the doors off so I could look and listen for clunks and bumps and pops and such. I drove it up on a stump to check my travel in the back for my bumpstops... The girls posed for my camera. lol

I found that I need to replace the front left axle joint. As long as I'm going straight it makes no noise. If I turn any it makes a *tink tink tink tink* sound... No biggy.

Also, I know the ball joints are shot. Gotta replace those.

More:
Install bumpstops
clean it really well, inside and out.
cut the sliders off and replace the rockers with 2x6.
Make the back doors removable.
and a whole list of other things that I can't think of right now...

I'm still debating about chopping the back of the roof off. What ya think?

I'm not fond of chopping up good XJ's since they seem to go to the crusher/parted out that much quicker. Now if it was rolled and had severe roof damage, you don't have anything to lose at that point. That's just my opinion.

Yeah, thats kinda what I'm thinking as well. I've been thinking about building the cage is if it were already chopped and then when I do roll it or damage the roof then I'll chop the back off...

X2.

I would build the cage to fit a full bodied XJ but with a chop in mind (if that's even possible) and not chop it till you flop it.

That's the plan. I'll build the halo to fit over where the roof will be once I chop the back off. Build and a, b and c pillars and run an angle down to the rear leaf spring hanger. That way I can cut the roof and it'll be just like I would have built it after it was chopped.

Tho, as you can see, it's already pretty dinged up. I've seen much worse but I do beat on it.

x3 on what Ed said. camping in the back of an xj is much better with the entire roof. not sure if you don much camping, but the roof is the reason i prefer an xj over a cj or wrangler. i've only used a tent once since i got my first full roof jeep, and that was because we went camping in the wife's corola. jeeps aren't just for wheelin! you can live in them!

Meh, My cargo area is usually full of tools and other stuff. It's easier to throw a tent in the back than it is to take everything out of the back to sleep. Last time I went camping in the jeep I took a hammock and tied it between my winch cable and a tree. :) Slept there. It's a good thing no one tried to steal the Jeep, Huh? lol

Hammocks are awesome. When I manage to get a cargo cover + hoops for the new rig, one is being attached to the front most hoop and left there.

I'm just ready to get this ginormic list of small things done to the Jeep so I can go out and tear it all up again!

Plus, I'm super excited because I finally found a girlfriend that understands "the Jeep thing." lol You have NO idea!

How many times have all you guys heard this jewel of a line:

"Why would you want to spend all that money on that rusty old pos when all you do is go out on the trail and break it?"

or

"Why do you waste so much money on that jeep, you don't ever buy ME anything?"

Because I WANT to, Bitch!

Finally, one that sits and helps me decide where to put a bend in my cage, or scraps all the dirt and grime off my axle shafts so we can install them with out screwin up my brand damn new outer tube seals.... AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

ok, im done now. :)

Agreed, my tent just lives in the Jeep so it's ready at any time. I do most of my sleeping now in an ENO hammock, absolutely love it.

Pretty awesome GF... they're hard to find, but so worth it.

As for tying the hammock to the winch cable, I guess it made a pretty decent anti-theft system, if you wake up on the ground, start running after them!

Lol! either that or if you wake up being drug across the ground on your Hammock...

Yup, heard those before. My favorite was when I took my now ex girlfriend camping and wheelin for the first time last summer up to uwharrie. Temps were 100*+ the whole weekend. When we were packing a couple days before leaving I told her to dress light as it's going to be hot. She said "well you have air conditioning so it won't be that bad." The look she had on her face when I said "I dont run the AC while we're on the trail...only to and from Uwharrie itself" was quite priceless :D

Haha well I ended up using it while we were on the roads in the forrest. It had been unusually dry and the dust was unreal driving up and down the roads. Long story short, got a call that a friend of ours rolled his Jeep after we got back to the camp site and in the frantic dash we made to get to where he was, I forgot to roll up the windows and we got COVERED in dirt/dust. It was in our eyes, nose, mouth and all over EVERYTHING.

Haha yeah, its not so bad if your running lead, but if ur in the back its miserable, we were running 4 deep down the FS rds, prolly doin 20 or so mph, I was lead at first, running 36x14.50 bias plys, slinging up a hell of a mess, friends are having trouble even staying behind me. Later on I am bringing up the rear, behind a stocker, and 2 xjs on 33s, oh so miserable, but Im beaming fogs and since Im taller I can still kind of see. My first trip to URE tho we were cruising, doors, ac, the works, had shut ac off a while, about 20 minutes in we are cruisin, kick on the ac, nearly die. Puffs that shit right into the jeep. we had to stop because we couldnt see anything.
