Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Just finished up from 3 days of working on the daily driver XJ. Installed a bunch of OEM/Crown replacement parts since the truck has 200,000 miles on it. Just needed a big revamp since everything was shot on it. We have owned it since new, and I know the parts have never been looked at, much less changed/lubed

New rear HD leaf springs.
New front coil springs.
New rear bump stops
New front bump stops
New shocks all around
New rear brake shoes
New rear wheel cylinders
New rear drums
New front calipers/pads
New front rotors
New front unit bearings
New front ball joints, both sides
New axle U-joints
New rear drive shaft U-joints
New front drive shaft U-joints, including the Dbl Cardan
New lower arms with bushings
New upper arms with bushings
New track bar
New draglink
New tie rod ends

5 broken bolts, 2 bolts that had to be cut out, couple bloody knuckles, 14 year old grease smeared everywhere, one newly aquired bad ass ball joint press, and a whole lot of rusty/crusty/corroded/siezed stuff, and $1300.00 bucks later, it rides/works like its should!

Which BJ press?

Ill have to look at the name, but its got every adapter you could ever imagine, and its beefy as heck. It also has all the adapters for the u-joints. I had a 5 foot breaker bar on it for one of the ball joints, and the 'C' didnt flex at all. Its beef!

It also has the angled adapters for the Dana 30. Makes life a lot easier.

Paid $160 bucks for it, but I didnt want any harbor freight style junk.

That was my next question. Does it have the angled adapters and Where you got it? You answered one now to the next.

tried to put my locker in, but found out it's not a c-clip axle, and that i need a slidehammer to remove the axleshafts. according to a friend of mine that owns a 4x4 shop, i can use the c-clip locker on a non c-clip axle, so that's cool. i also know a guy here in m'boro that said he'd put the locker in for $60, so that seems worth it. i'll prolly take it to him next week and just not worry aboot it.

Did you get that from LKQ? i still haven't been to any of the local Raleigh JY's, whats the best around here?

Yup they are from LKQ. That's the best place to go, and the only pick and pull around here that I know of. It is pretty popular though, so sometimes its a crap-shoot as to if you are going to find what you want. I found good seats after a good 4-5 trips for other stuff.

Two solutions you can try:

-Thread a wheel on partially the way down with a couple lug nuts. Use the wheel as a slide hammer.

- Take out your wheel cylinders/brake parts and use a pipe and hammer to knock them out like so:

good ideas, man! i think i've decided to let my buddy put it in for me for $60 though. i got the locker cheap, so i can chalk it up to the price for the locker. the axle is in the jeep, too, and it's stock height, so it's just a pain in the nutz to mess with it anyway.

i usually flip a brake drum around and thread the lugnuts on....

My sawzall slipped on me this weekend and got out of control in the process.

ha! i'd still wheel it....
did a little wheelin today with my buddy that has a 75 bronco. it was his first time, although he's had the bronco for a couple years. he did ok for a rookie. i did better in my stock xj than he did in his lifted bronco on 33's! he needs a locker sumpin fierce.
i've gotten better traction out of a 2wd xj with a limited slip than he was gettin... btw, thornbirds suck. his were gettin all cakey with mud while my all-terrains were doin just fine!
