Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Flew home from San Francisco on Saturday after being in CA for a week for work. Finished up the lift swap yesterday as well. It's amazing how much difference you get from new suspension vs old, well used suspension. Didn't even think about being able to still get the Jeep out of the garage when I was done until...I couldn't.

Did you air down??

Haha! You need a taller door.

I worked on putting the transmission back in the Chevrolet Saturday. Got it hung on the back of the engine and it got dark.

Was lazy all day yesterday.

Installed rear main seal, new oil pan gasket, and tore down the dana 30 for new seals, driver side ball joints.

My initial thought was to do like they do on the Liberty Mutual Insurance commercials...throw it in reverse and floor it, rip everything clean off the Jeep then have insurance fix it.

Got lucky by being able to remove the tire from the rack (correctly of course). The rack is still on but even that's a tight fit right now.

A bigger door wouldn't be hard to do...got plenty of room to make a bigger one :)

I can't get in and out of my garage with the tire on the top or the CB antenna on the truck. I have to pull out to install either. Glad I relocated my spare inside the Jeep! Even when I am in there and the door is open, the emergency release handle for the door sits on top of the truck.

Went to Boone for the day to take care of some business. Needed to kill some time so I went for my favorite mountain past time, exploring off the pavement. I love finding these secrets off the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The last picture would have been really cool as a panoramic, but my iPhone is "old".

Y'all are doing it wrong...

Swapped motors in the MJ, the old RENIX motor parted ways with a rod so a 98 low mileage long block is now sitting between the frame rails.

And yes, it still ran with a rod hanging out of the pan! Cylinder #2 is now a big open hole LOL! When my son heard the bang he pulled off the road in a bad place and called me. I told him it most likely dropped a rod but if it would run drive it to a safe place and I would come get him. He drove it 3/4 of a mile(I witnessed the oil trail) to a wide shoulder to load it up on the trailer at.

4.0's are tough even when fatally wounded they refuse to die. It still would start and run when I got it home!

COLD as H3LL day(33 high) to lay under a MJ and swap motors but it went smooth even doing it by myself. I guess after you swap a dozen or so 4.0's it just becomes habit.

I recognize where this is. I have a snow pic of ours there from a few years ago. I'd love to do that day again. Killing an entire tank of gas exploring random snowy roads in the mountains is a great way to clear the mind...

Didn't get too much accomplished this weekend. Went to a friends housewarming party last night that ended with a bonfire. It was nice to see old friends and meet some new ones as well.

It was way too damn cold today to do anything outside, which was a perfect excuse for me to stay inside most of the day and watch football.

Your boy is hard on Jeeps! How come he wasn't laying under there doing the work while you supervised? At this point, if my son had the same track record, that's exactly what would have happened.... LOL!

Well he went hunting yesterday and had to work today. Honestly, I work better by myself and he has no interest in mechanical stuff other than how to wreck it, roll it or blow it up LOL!

I turn into a machine when I do an engine swap, just get out my way!

We did argue about this tonight and I told him I am no longer his friggin crew chief and personal mechanic. He has to pay for the rest of the repairs to any car that he owns. Time for him to grow up and be responsible.

This engine was on borrowed time after running upside down for 5-10min after the roll-over. Oil starvation severely shortened it life so I had an engine ready to drop in.

It ran like this for way too long. He was unconscious and it took him a while to shut the engine off.

Was gonna say, I thought I remembered it running upside down... death sentence there.

At least he didn't put it upside down again :anon: LOL

It made it 15,000 miles after the wreck and with less than 20psi of oil pressure(off idle). I could hear it starting to get loose so I picked a motor up 3 weeks ago. You know, these 4.0's are tough SOB's!

Yep... friend has been running on one that has been rattling at high RPMs (started rattling at 3k rpm mid load... that progressed to 2.5k rppm mid load... it's now rattling at 2k rpm mid load!) and he's lasted 6 months or so on it. I told him to keep an eye out for a new motor and expect it to pop at any moment. Still hasn't.

The one in my XJ has been rattling at high rpm right after startup for a month or two now, I am preparing for the worst. Need to get the second MJ going before it pops actually, seeing as I commute 140 miles a day for work in that XJ, now that I think about it.

We didn't hit that road, but yeah same area.

Took a ride in a Toyota Celica All-Trac rally machine today. Probably the only car that I've heard worse suspension noises than the Jeep! It was a blast though and fast, though the boost was turned down and we couldn't open it up too much. I think I might have to come crew at the Sandblast Rally this year.

My weekend started out pretty good. Travis (a new XJ owner I work with and have known for a while) met me at 5 am Saturday morning and we left out for Stumps place in Atlanta. I picked up my "James Clegg Original" signature series rear bumper w/swingout tire carrier. Stopped at Waffle House for lunch and made it home by 2pm. I went to my daughters ballgame (which they lost) and then went home.

My wife said to sit down, that she had something to tell me. It didn't sound like the news would be good and it wasn't. My Grandma passed away at 7:47 that morning and rather than ruin the trip to Atlanta, they told me after the ballgame. It was a sad day after that. She was suffering with dementia and it was getting worse over the last two months. She passed away in her sleep. I was thankful for that.

Then I got a stomach bug and didn't feel like doing anything Saturday night or all day Sunday. I am feeling pretty good now.
