Weekend is over...what did you get done?

dicking around in a parkinglot and chased my friend in his mazda in reverse in the jeep... you wouldnt believe how unstable these things get at high speeds backwards... LOL
and stopping was also very strange

Well we got it! it is VERY clean! I little tearing on the side of the seat and the headliner is beginning to fall right above the drivers head. The center console is a little loose but probably just needs to be tightened down. Some things the guy left out are the clock spring is bad, airbag light, no cruise, no horn, so that will need to be replaced. The tires are pretty worn out and they are heavily worn on the outside edge and the inside edge on all four tires has more tread left than the outside edge. Shows he rotated the tires a good amount since they are all the same but the tread wear indicates there is a problem. I am thinking ball-joints. There is a little clear coat peeling on the top of the driver side fender but it wasn't much. Seriously though, this is me TRYING to find problems haha. I couldn't see a crack in the head or notice any gasket leaking. But everytime I see a thread about head cracking the crack it usually under the valve cover. My Granddad is having a hard time believing the head is cracked or the the gasket is bad if all the Jeep is doing is overheating. So he is going to tinker with it and do a compression test. I priced a new head at $379.99 from O'Reily's and that was much more than we would like to spend so we are going to try and find a used head at pull-a-part and see about maybe getting it rebuilt by a guy my Granddad knows.

It will some time before we all have time to get together to turn some wrenches on this bad boy but it will be back to turning rubber soon!

Ben, was this for the young Barker?

Ben, was this for the young Barker?

Nope, young Barker got the oldest Barker's hand-me-down Jeep. The Jeep we picked out was for our other cousin who is away at GCSU. He has a 2wd XJ but always wanted a 4x4 XJ and they now have 2 more eligible drivers in their family since the purchase of the 2wd XJ so adding another vehicle to the fleet only made sense. But this now makes 7 XJs in the extended family!

broke....

Ouch! What is it with everyone tearing up their rigs lately?

I'm pretty sure Cadillac hill is positioned above an Indian burial ground....nothing else would seem to explain its history of major carnage in a benign 20 ft section......

Stress cracks all in the gear and it picks the exact same spot to let go where dans willys quit running on its maiden voyage.....and we all know how that night went

LOL!

At least it wasn't 20* outside and 3am!

Not to mention, where Tim lost rear drive due to busted driveshafts, the spare also broke off the jeep. Then on another trip my t-case let go in tge willys & alost caused me to tumble down the mountain on my roof. Betty suffered the same fate as Dan's Willys but also lost the brake booster with the ripped fuel hose, but fortunately made it out under her own power. What's his name (with his wife & kids in the white jeep) broke EVERYTHING & could no longer move in any direction, all on that hill. Plus we aren't the only ones who've had poor luck on that hill. Some other friends of mine have been several times without me & they too seem to have strange issues with that trail.

Doug, you may be right! Lol. That trail isn't hard enough to cause all of the carnage that its known for.

Went wheeling with Hobag, Brad, Molly and a few others at the MWC trail clean up. Following Brian is hard, even in his new Barbie Jeep! Got to take my brother out and he enjoyed himself, and I got to scare the hell out of him! :D

This happened

Followed by this on extraction

Coil popped out, one of the studs on the kingpin cap broke causing the steering to not work, he ripped a brake line out, and pretzeled a shock.

fixed my loose console. Wanted to fabup a metal mount for the rear of the console but swapped in a factory plastic one for now. This one should last awhile.

Plan a rear axle swap, then a motor swap. Should be fun...... Hope to get the motor swap done before November's run

Went to URE and wheeled the 97 I fixed the head gasket on. Discovered it worked well.. even with 235's on the rear and 225's on the front. LOL!

I drove to Andy's and picked up the MJ bed. We left Roanoke at 1pm Saturday and got home at 3am Sunday

800 miles and 4 tanks of gas! My Hemi is sucking gas bad all of a sudden, I averaged 11.5 mpg towing a light trailer. I just put new plugs in and I ran the scan tool when we stopped in Statesville and found everything to be working as it should. I'm going to have to dig deeper. I normally get 13.5 towing my 6x10 box trailer in "tow/haul" mode and 18 highway running light.

I brought home a Comanche today... Traded my yj for it, to a buddy, and member on here 01greenxjsport...

It looks like it will be a long project, hes had lots of death wobble problems for a long time, looks to me like the brackets from the swap will need to be removed, and replaced after setting for pinion angle. Shorten driveshafts, and a few other things.

I will also be doing a 97+ conversion, will be doing the seats first, as the current seats are pretty awful. And go from there.

Waggy 44 upfront, isuzu 12 bolt rear with discs, gears are 4.27 and 4.30s, welded front, lsd rear. SOA rear, 6-8" up front. On some 35 pro comp x terrains.

As it sits now...
