i have several medical grade oxygen tanks that are empty, can the valves be changed and used to hold air for tire fills or whatever?

Are they the steel tanks? I do beleive those kind will work. I have been toying with the idea but using CO2 in the tanks.

CO2 does not hold water so it does not rust out your rim. now if you realy want some thing that will keep the preasure in your tires longer go for nitrogen like we use in the airplane tires.

I've got a CO2 tank that you are more than welcome to have, although im in dallas so im a good bit from you. My Aunt is coming in town tomorrow from the Woodlands, so if you would like it I'll TRY to convince her to take it back for you.

An oxygen tank would work fine as a CO2 tank, however you do not want to use a true CO2 tank to air up tires or power tools off of. CO2 is stored as a liquid, and the big CO2 tanks have a pickup tube that allows liquid CO2 to be picked up and come out the valve. You do NOT want this if you are going to be airing up tires or running air tools off of. You can use a regular oxygen tank, with a valve and pressure regulator on it.
