Unions Wtf

actually teachers salaries are calculated at a yearly pay rate.

Most take continuing education, but technically the unions tell them they only have to work 8 hours a day. 9 months a year.

They don't go without pay during the summer unless they allocate their check in such a way as to pay a years salary in 9 months of school.

I wish I could work 9 months a year, with KILLER bennies, and only 8 hrs a day.

Then....they only strike during the school year. Why ? Because they plan it that way without regard to the children they are teaching, or they families that pay their wages.

THAT is B.S. all the way around.

no strike clause here. never had a strike here. va is an at will work state, witch means if you strike you can and probably will loose your job. the local firefighter union has the same clause no strike. nice to know where your at its an 8 hour day, here it is 9. teachers here are salery now so they do get paid for the one month but thats only if you are 11 month worker, the 9 month still only get paid if they take partial cheques durring the school year. you factor out a yearly salery to hours worked and teaches make less than min. wage.

not here. A common argument is "look how much time of their own they giv" while in reality, if they are union, they are not obligated to do anymore than what they've had their union agree to. I will be the first to say that teachers shouldn't be union. I like the fact your state is at will. BUT...if someone gets into a teaching job and then BITCHES about it...too bad.

Should have lloked further into whats required, and expected.

Like you said...the 9 month worker only gets a check year round if thats how they want it....I'd hate to see one of them complain because they cant pay the mortgage / rent come August. If they agree to take pay over the year..those aren't PARTIAL checks.

If they make minimum wage out where your at...they need to teach in private school.

The unions out here have torn our school systems apart with all sorts of crap.

They get no real sympathy from the general public.

ALSO...the number one cause of problems in alot of the school districts budgets is that ADIM costs eat 85-90 % of the total alotment of cash.

WTF isn't more being spent on books, classroom supplies, better buildings... and teachers salaries instead of the paper pushers.

THere is your real question.

Your Mother was a teacher and my whole family comes from Law enforcement so....yeah I know a little about what you are talking about.

I also see Tenured teachers who have no accountability for anything they teach. When I was in sixth grade my best friend had his leg broken by a teacher for talking back to him...guess what...that teacher is still teaching. Know why? Because the UNIONS stood behind him!

Oh and I guess I ought to mention that my Ex-sister in law is a grade school teacher. She has been doing it for 5 years or so and makes about 37K a YEAR...Sure maybe they don't pay her for the months that she doesn't work but she is still a salaried wage earner so she is actually earning about 4111.00 a month instead of 3083.00 a month like anybody else who makes that a year.

Just curious? Is your mother as big a whiner as the teachers around here? I would think if she was such a great teacher she would have taught you to spell a little better.

what are you HIGH? my mother was a teacher for 26 years and was an 11 month employee. witch means she had 1 month off durring the summer but she did not get paid for it. in va you are eithe an 11 month employee or a 9 month employee. the only year round employed are the superviser of schools and his staff, as well as mantiance. the month she was off she had a part time job as a seamstress making things for friends. so know what you are talking about before you open your mouth. also you want your kids to lear more? then sit them down and teach them some respect. and not just for teachers. for police officers, fire fighters and ems personell. learning starts at home and people like you want to blame teachers for your kids being bumb while your kids are sitting infront of the tv playing x box or psII, instead of doing homework or studying. how about making schools a safe place to go and learn? thats why my mom retired. they had to put police offices in the schools because of kids bringing guns and knives to school. so before you blame others maybe you need to step back and say "what have i dont to encourage my kids to learn?" not "we need to blame the teachers for our kids being so dumb." rant off.

teaching me to spell would be as useful as beating a dead horse. no mom wasnt a whiner she loved the job, untill things started getting to the point that the schools had to have po in then full time. had several teaches threated that resulted in either them quiting and going to teach other places o nothing happening because it was out of the schools hands. this county doesnt have a union so dont know if thats a blessing or a course. average teachers salery here is about 28-30k a year depending on experance and how many years they have taught. but they have to pay out the nose for health care. i work for the same county as a fire fighter/emt i pay 220 a month for 1 child. luckly the county payes for my insurance but the teachers have a different ins. co. and for on child it is 290, and its no where as good as my ins.

You people piss and moan about teacher salaries, but they make more than my wife does. She has a BA in psych, and the best starting sal is around $25k.

Good thing I'm making close to twice that with free insurance for my entire family:D

Don't get me wrong...I don't think teachers should work for nothing...I just thin that when they a lot of times make better then average wages...have better then average benefits and get more days off a year then just about anyone they shouldn't complain as much as they do.

That being said I think the rougher the schools the more they should get...I can't imagine teaching in the slums of some of our bigger cities.

Yes parents do need to work with thier kids more and take a little more responsibility....but if they don't care and thier kid is the stupid one who does or does not graduate highschool......there is place for them, most likely a union of some sort.

You are a shining example of making sure the kids are taught respect at home so they learn. I've highlighted all the spelling, and didn't even attempt the grammar/punctuation. Where you live they work 9 hr days? Big deal! In the Marine Corps it wasn't uncommon for me to work 10, 11, 12+ hr days. My pay was $19k a year, and I worked vastly more than 40hr weeks. I didn't complain though about the pay or hours because I knew that going in and I volunteered. I feel for the teachers because they have to deal with a lot of unruly and downright disrespectful kids, but they knew the conditions of the job before they signed on, or at least they should have before they took the job.

Knowing how to spell is one of the main methods people use to determine a writer's credibility and intelligence. If you speak eloquently and spell like a retard, people will just think you heard it somewhere and are talking out of your rear...

blacksport96 how log ago was it you were in the corp? my brother-in-law is in the corp and makes a lot more than that. and im glad you have so much free time that you can highlight something we all already know. thats for sharing.

sorry you feel that way. but none if that is up to you. so i guess its a good thing im not a writer.

I used to work for the Teamsters and the thing that pissed me off to the point I had to find work else work elsewhere is nobody worked.....they would rather sit around and whine about the stupidest things....They would whine about the toilet paper not being soft enough. Sure I made great money working there but I would never work for another union backed company. It made me feel like nothing more then a well paid welfare recipient.

Why? She knew when she started college that beginning jobs were low paying. She had no expectations of grandure.

She enjoys the job she does, but is also pursuing her PhD, so one day, I won't have to work.

OIC a plan... thats just plain crazy. My wife also has a BA in psych, I tried so hard to get her to atleast get her masters but she doesn't want anything eslo to do with school. So, now she's a nanny make 35k/yr working 4 days a week. I pick up the slack as an engineer.

Good ol PEs.

Mine might as well be a nanny with the people she has to deal with. I wouldnt be surprised if some of them wore "Oops I crapped my pants."

I wonder what union I belong to.

My continuing education, my once a year testing, my twice a year qualifying. Makes me wonder how stupid I really am. :dunno:
