The trip was good, my buddy chris invited me on this trip last winter, a bunch of guys at his work all ride and they all go on a big trip every year. This year they planned 4 days riding around the mounains in northwestern colorado.
Including myself there ended up being 9 of us on the trip, one of those people was the guy that bought my k100 (which he rode on the trip!) Thursday morning we all met in golden and rode up to estes park, took trail ridge road to granby, and ended up in steamboat springs for the night. Day two we rode to glenwood springs and had lunch then rode around some cool roads that i have no real idea where we were, but we ended the day in aspen and stayed in a hostel for the night. Day three we finally left aspen around 11 after we got one of the guys 80something harley to start and stay running, we had lunch in leadville and then got to our destination in winter park at about 4:30.
Most of the guys were older and apart from the first day we didnt come close to breaking 200 miles a day. We rode more the first day, less the second, and even less the third as they all got more and more tired of sitting on their bikes i guess. I ended up just riding home from winter park saturday evening since we got there so early, but everyone else stayed and then rode home sunday morning.
Apart from the late starts every day, huge lunches with lots of beer, and low miles every day haha it was a blast. We rode beautiful roads, stayed in cool places, and the weather was fantastic, overall it ended up being right about 600 miles i put on the bike. It was pretty funny riding with that many different people, all with different kinds of bikes and different riding styles. But i have to say that although i had a great time I think solo trips or taking one or two good friends is more up my alley.
My bike did really good, i got in the mid to upper 50s for gas mileage, and didnt have any problems other then realizing how bad my windscreen buffeting was after riding a bunch of other bikes. This was the first time i spent a good amount of time riding in 10,000+ feet altitude and really noticed how much slower my bike feels. I couldnt believe how much harder my bike pulled in 6th gear when I got onto c470 down here, it felt like a rocket compared to the three days beforehand! Now that i have the new screen and my luggage im itching to get another trip in before it starts snowing up in the mountains.
Oh yeah, me and chris bought senas for our helmets and that completely made the trip! It was such a different riding experience being able to talk to each other whenever we wanted and to communicate with some of the other riders in the group that had headsets too. I definitely recommend a headset/intercom if you ride with people more often then not. We both got the sena 20s and apart from a few glitches here and there (some were operator error) im pretty impressed with them
