Is it a tire issue or weight issue as far as the bike offroad lacking? Also did you do the xrx or xcx option? How was temps on that road you suggested? I might have to take a trip up there.
It was really hot when entering the start park that the road runs through (it costs $10 for a pass thats good all week) and then really comfortable for the better portion of the road and it got a little chilly and windy once you got near treeline. But just having my jacket all the way zipped up and keeping my visor down i stayed warm enough for the time i was up there, and once the road starts to descend again into estes park it warms up fast. Im busy for the next couple weekends but let me know if you wanna go up to trailridge after that, id definitely be down to ride it with ya.
It was a kind of all around bike issue. You cant tell how steep that trail was by looking at it in pics. It was so steep that when i would lose traction and stop the front brake wouldnt hold the bike in place even with both feet on the ground, i had to hold the rear brake also to keep the bike from sliding backwards down the hill.
The tires are fine on dirt and gravel roads but they werent getting much traction on rocks and loose dirt. The gearing is also not low enough in 1st gear for any real hard/steep trails, when i let the clutch out and putz around at idle its already going like 9-10 mph. The bike is also fricken heavy when it starts to lean/fall over, or when its following ruts and wanting to do its own thing and go its own way.
Mine is also the roadie version, not the xc version, but the only real differences are an extra inch of suspension on the xc, knobbies, and spoked wheels with a 21" front wheel vs the 19" front wheel on the roadie. Just trying (and failing) that one little section of difficult trail reeeaaallly makes me respect the riding that ernie and the icon guys did in the raiden video, and riding the tigers in the mexican 1000 rally.
