So much want

Two wheel talk. I'm interested in buying my first bike nothing bookoo fancy or expensive. I know how to ride and have since I was a kid. Interested in something similar to Mike's but not as new or nice.

I would definitely get an injected bike. Avoid the zzr or or gs bikes. F4i is a great bike. Injected 600. Comfy. Under powered compared to newer 600's but quick enough to have a blast. Tons of aftermarket support. Easy to modify to make your own. And can be had for the 3-3500 range pretty much all day.

Part of the incentive package i got with my bike is triumph heated grips, they havent showed up from triumph yet but i wanted to install some handguards to help keep the heat in and keep the rain off of my fingers when riding in weather. The triumph ones were all plastic so i looked around a little bit and found some from sw-motech that matched the angular shape of the windscreen and headlights, and had an aluminum backbone.

I also took my bike in this morning and got the 500 mile service done on it! Now im good for another 5500 miles. My beak showed up earlier in the week so i picked that up from the parts department while i was there and installed it as soon as i got home. Now it doesnt look like the front of the bike is missing something to me.

Tiger looks great man, although personally I like them w/o the beak a bit better. Those hand guards are really nice and will make a huge difference in nasty weather. now you just need to get a tank bag with SW-Motec's sweet fuel ring mount. I'm really tempted by those Tigers, they're awesome looking bikes.

I'm going to take the kid for a ride later today, the weather is supposed to be great.

Ive been wanting to take a solo trip for a while and now that i have the new bike I finally made time to do one this weekend. I started out taking 6th ave to idaho springs late saturday morning. I had looked at some maps and thought it was gonna be possible to take some small dirt roads from idaho springs all the way to St Marys glacier. The dirt roads quickly turned into dirt trails that were very steep and rocky and after nearly dropping my bike a few times i gave up and went back down and took the paved road up to the glacier.

I went back down to idaho springs for lunch then took 34 (i believe) up to granby and planned on camping on lake granby but all of the campgrounds were full all of the way around the lake. I ended up staying at willow creek reservoir. The reservoir was a few miles off the highway on dirt roads, was a lot more secluded, and ended up being a lot nicer place to camp for the night.

I packed up this morning and headed up to Trailridge Rd that led to Estes park. If you have never rode or drove on trailridge rd you need to! It was one of the best rides ive done with hands down the best scenery ive seen so far in Colorado, this was my first time up there and I had a absolutely amazing time!

All in all it was a great weekend; I had a lot of fun, rode 180 miles on saturday, learned that a tiger 800 is not a dirtbike, I realized that being 6'3" tall I need bar risers, rode 140 miles today, I have almost 1300 miles on the bike now, and it got an average of 56mpg

Is it a tire issue or weight issue as far as the bike offroad lacking? Also did you do the xrx or xcx option? How was temps on that road you suggested? I might have to take a trip up there.

It was really hot when entering the start park that the road runs through (it costs $10 for a pass thats good all week) and then really comfortable for the better portion of the road and it got a little chilly and windy once you got near treeline. But just having my jacket all the way zipped up and keeping my visor down i stayed warm enough for the time i was up there, and once the road starts to descend again into estes park it warms up fast. Im busy for the next couple weekends but let me know if you wanna go up to trailridge after that, id definitely be down to ride it with ya.

It was a kind of all around bike issue. You cant tell how steep that trail was by looking at it in pics. It was so steep that when i would lose traction and stop the front brake wouldnt hold the bike in place even with both feet on the ground, i had to hold the rear brake also to keep the bike from sliding backwards down the hill.

The tires are fine on dirt and gravel roads but they werent getting much traction on rocks and loose dirt. The gearing is also not low enough in 1st gear for any real hard/steep trails, when i let the clutch out and putz around at idle its already going like 9-10 mph. The bike is also fricken heavy when it starts to lean/fall over, or when its following ruts and wanting to do its own thing and go its own way.

Mine is also the roadie version, not the xc version, but the only real differences are an extra inch of suspension on the xc, knobbies, and spoked wheels with a 21" front wheel vs the 19" front wheel on the roadie. Just trying (and failing) that one little section of difficult trail reeeaaallly makes me respect the riding that ernie and the icon guys did in the raiden video, and riding the tigers in the mexican 1000 rally.

Indeed! If you can drive Trailridge Rd and not be moved, you do not have a soul.

Happy Fathers Day Seth!
