Just a quick rant...

I am unemployed (got laid off) and just moved back home with the rents after moving out 3 months ago for a job after graduating college. So since I am home, I was asked to watch my 3rd grade sisters while both my parents went to work (mother works per diem and got called in).

I woke up at say, 9ish, and went to grab a cup of coffee and there was some CGI show of animals on a beach singing about making a hut (sounded like it shoulda been in some 3 year olds show like that damn dora the explorer or whatever the hell it was, thank god that doesnt go on our tv anymore). Then I went down maybe 45 min later and they are watching some other show with a woman singing about being a damn bell...

And I wondered why they ran around acting like they are bells and just being a bit odd... What happened to real kids shows, I mean there were always the young kids stuff, thomas the tank engine, etc.. but I'm pretty sure even 10 years back 3rd graders weren't expected to watch shows dumbed down like this, this whole "kids shouldnt see any violence and should watch educational stuff" type of though process is getting a bit rediculous. Maybe I am missing something, I don't really know.. Just had to rant. :gonnablow

Yeah, what ever happened to wholesome stuff like Speedy Gonzales, Road Runner, Tom & Jerry, Magilla Gorilla, Mr Magoo, Mighty Mouse, Underdog, Rocky & Bullwinkle.... helped us all grow up quite sane and violence free. :)

i can't stand those shows every time my little brother watches them i want to put a bullet in my head im only 18 but when i was young i always watched the old cartoons my favorite still being tom and jerry and the discovery channel i am afraid how the next generation is going to turn out

Id say we turned out allright. Remember animaniacs??!?!
dude i think i just had a flashback:spin3: how about rocko's modern life or two angry beavers

I bought my 3 year old a dvd set of Tom and Jerry because he loves watching them. At the beginning of each disk there is a disclaimer about how racist the show is and then Whoopie Goldberg comes on and talks about how racist it was. A lot of dumb ass people are offended by all of the shows you mentioned and they have been labeled "politically incorrect"

LMAO, Whoopi Goldberg? She is about as smart as a box of rocks. I know, I worked with her. Her politics come from the press, she can barely read. Semi funny as a comic, but as a person, pretty lame.

I may have missed this growing up but, how the hell is Tom and Jerry racist?

I thought it was just a cat and mouse that are always trying to hurt each other until one was in serious danger and the other helped save him...

Is it racist against cats or mice?

That is from Whoopi Goldberg. What she thinks is racist is NOT the norm. She is nuts.

Some people make a living fermenting controversy.

Must be the dog?
WTF?

Kids were always dumb- like little blank CDs. TV isn't making them dumb- lack of parenting and education is.

Well yeah, I do agree with that 100%, but I can vouch that my parents are not the type of individuals responsible of this. I suppose my rant was a bit un-thought out. I should say that shows these days are treating older and older age groups like young children now... I went and was talking to a friend and my brother and we did realize that my sisters were normally in school at that time, so some of the shows were probably directed at a younger (too young to be in school) age group at that time of the morning. Esp the 2nd show I ranted about. But I do notice it a bit overall. Not just in morning shows..

Regardless, I still think that political correctness and & hyper-parenting to an extent are getting a bit out of hand in some ways these days, and all the good old shows need to come back so I can watch cartoons on saturday mornings again :D
