Toughest Sidewalled Tire?

Add on to this thread...can you mount any / all of these on an 8" wide wheel? Manufacturer's recommend 8.5" but finding an 8.5" width is impossible.

my street locks are 8.5" wide

It depends on what width you get. But as general rule of thumb, yes, you can run a 12.50 tire on an 8" rim with no problems.

Yeah, they all say 8.5" minimum, but discount said 8" is ok. Just wanted some confirmation.

By the way, I'm leaning towards Interco SX's.

SX's or creepy's.

I've seen SX's cut. It's tough, but you can cut any tire in the right situation.

Creepy's are nice cause they have very agressive tread about 1/2 way down the sidewall. I've run mine at 0 psi and had little bulging on the snow runs I do.

I am running the Mickey Thompson Baja Claws and havent had a problem with them. I run on the rocks all the time. I also have run the Dunlop Mud Rovers and they actually have a thicker sidewall then the MT's.

Get Pitbulls! They are beautiful!!

mmm

I cant say enough good things about my Maxxis Creepies...

the side wall is like 3/4" thick... Ive put them into some crap that i wouldnt expect ANY tire to survive, and they just take it...

Second this. Toyo's are unreal for there performance. One of the very few tires Raced off-road, right off the shelf. BFG's off the shelf tire would not go 5 miles on a Trophy Truck!
thats is exactly my point. BFG was the winner how many years in a row, then came along the good ol TOYO. poeple really need to get out there and check these bad asses out. OFF THE RIMS. you will highly appreciate the sidewalls guaranteed. and you will say HOLY FAWK!!!!!

Well BFG sidewalls suck balls anyway.

I ran 2 sets of bfg's both had minor and major sidewall failures. Not just on one tire, but multiple tires. I'll never run another BFG radial on an offroad rig again.

On street driven rigs, the BFG AT kicks ass. I have TOYO AT's (load range E) on the tow rig, but when they wear out I will be switching to BFG AT/s in load range E.

I believe Maxxis have only had 3 or so, tire failures in 3 years of rock crawling competition with Creepys and Trepadors!!! Compared to other manufacturers having failures almost every event!

Impressive!

Agreed. On road - BFGs rule (excellent traction, treadwear and appearance), Off road - they suck (sucky sidewalls)! Straight up, no debate, they are poor offroad tires.

toyo HT is our number 1 selling HT tire. its just amazing how thick the sidewalls are. that is what this thread is about...

My point, BFG won when they were out there alone, and remember they never run off the shelf tires, always projects!!! Toyo. Maxxis, Hankook all racing with off the shelf.

its just a shame they are so damn expensive or i would be running them. i got the MTZ's and with 100 miles on them im trying to sell them cause i have heard to many bad things about the sidewalls cracking and leaking air. i dont need that...

The toughest tires I've seen are Maxxis Creepies, bias ply Baja Claw's, and Swamper SX's. I've run the Claws, best tire I've ever had, but they were comp compound, and now I run the Creepies, also comp compound.

Went with 4 Swamper SX's. Got new wheels too. The wheel backspacing is causing the letters on the tire to rub on my Teraflex knuckle. Started grinding on the knuckle already. Right now there is about .4" clearance. Sound like enough? I'll post pics soon.

sounds like you needed a little more back spacing on your new wheels. Maybe throw on a set of wheel spacers to gain some clearance.
