Time delays on editing posts?

I've encountered this a few times where I can edit a post for a period of time, but after a while I no longer can. I understand the purpose, just curious what the time frame is for that.

Example... I have new information for a For Sale thread I posted, and I want to update the first post to reflect that so that people don't need to read the whole thread.

Just curious...

OK originally I was just curious about this, but now I will be doing a part-out thread and it would be nice to keep the first post updated so people know what's sold and what's still available. Any possibility of that happening? Basically a permanently-editable first post.

If not, no big deal, I will make do.

Nope. ;)

We've found that allowing unlimited edits to posts, particularly classifieds posts, inevitably leads to drama. Think about shady sellers editing posts halfway through a sale kind of BS.

Believe me, I'd rather deal with the inconvenience than have people do what you just said. Thanks for the clarification GSequoia!
