So I've been reading a bunch of posts in different XJ forums as far as the fuel pump & regulator replacement go. I know 1996 is a special year, which makes finding parts super complicated. I found one forum on this site that was super helpful as far as listing replacement parts - but the post was like 10 years old and 1/2 the sites that they ordered their parts from no longer exist or are out of business 🥲 does anyone have any helpful info - my current pumps on its last leg and id hate for it to die out before i can replace it ( jeeps my daily driver currently and dont have a back up ). I attempted to have my mechanic look into parts for me, but the 2 different pumps/regulators he ordered online were not it. Thanks in advance

The '96 fuel pump assembly is different due to the fuel level sending unit. There are 2 sets of "fingers" for the level. One is for the fuel gauge, the other provides OBD II input. If the pump body itself is bad, they can generally be replaced but be careful not to damage the sending unit.

Here's an older thread on it. @Anak is still around and may be able to provide more details.

The pump itself should not be a challenging part to obtain. There should be a Bosch or Walbro unit that can replace the existing pump on the sending unit assembly. As long as your fuel pressure regulator is working you should be able to service your sending unit assembly. If your fuel pressure regulator is no longer working you then have a larger problem. I am not aware of any fuel pressure regulators currently on the market which will give you the correct 49 psi. I went through a variety of them a year or so ago and none of the ones I could find would work. At this point my best option is to pull junkyard FPRs out of '95 and down H.O. Jeeps in hopes that one of them will work properly.
