Tie Rod Flip questions for D44

I just picked up a Ford 1978 HP D44 for my XJ. I don't have the $$$ to do a real high steer right now after buying a locker and gears. What I plan to do is to flip the tie rod to the top side of the ford knuckles. I know this has been done but I can't seem to find out the following: Not having had the opportunity to pull the TRE's, is the Ford TRE a small shank or large shank. If it is the small shank, is the difference enough so as to allow me to mill the hole out and reverse the taper from the top using a larger shank? It seems like I have seen somewhere that people had a tapered bushing that could be driven into a straight hole for this purpose.

I've searched but no direct answers were found.
