Thrillcraft: The Environmental Consequences of Motorized Recreation

I saw that same book and commented on it to my wife. That store has a whole wall covered with greenie propaganda.

You should have told the store owner that mountain bikers and hikers make just as much of an impact on the land. Then you should have asked him what he thought would happen to the tax base of Moab if all the off road vehicles just stopped coming.....

IIRC the tax on a hotel room there is over 10%. My hotel bill that should have been $440 ended up over $500.

Same shop was selling the spiral bound edition of Wells guide book and the Massey guide books.

It's a business. That book was obviously selling well if it was in the bargain box

Are we talking about Back of Beyond Books? I've seen that book in there before....yet I love that store. They have the best selection of 4wd guide books in town that I have found.

Obviously if that book was in the sidewalk sale....no one was buying it anyways :roflmao:

I think so, a few doors done from the Jailhouse Cafe.

This is getting rediculous (sp) I am seeing this pop up on more and more sites. http://www.stopthrillcraft.org/index.htm
Just like what happened with the ftard that went down the quad trail, we gotta CYOA when we go out. These propaganda nazis will do what ever they can to shut the out doors down.

I watched the entire video and found it to be thought provoking.

I enjoy nature. I really, really, enjoy nature, so much that I was a member of the WWF and the Nature Conservancy at one time.

And I hate what I see some folks do in the name of "Recreation".

I have seen an almost pristine mountain prairie. I say "almost" because it had one set of 1' deep tracks though it. The sign that was run over on it's way to that prairie read "No Motorized Vehicles". How many times have you been out with a Group, and one guy starts playing off-trail? Did you chew his azz out, or did you join him?

Mudding is a waste. You not only mess up the area you're in, but you take seeds and other garbage with you to your next location.

ATVs and ORMs do not need to be so loud. The 90db limit most State and County entities place on the exhaust of these machines is too low. If you went down a public street with an exhaust note of 90db, you'd get a ticket and told to put a muffler on. Why then is it OK on the trail?

Are you courteous on the trail? When a group of equestrians comes down the trail, did you pull over and shut off your trucks, or did you blow right past them?

Do you go target practicing, shoot the crap out of every sign or tree you can find and leave your casings all over the ground, or do you pack-in and pack out your targets and police the area for casings?

We are our own worst enemy, seriously.

Watch the entire video from their perspective instead of worrying what the end message is. Their argument is compelling to anyone who enjoys the outdoors.

Whether you enjoy Jeeping, ATVing, ORMs, or what have you, if you really do enjoy the outdoors, and enjoy nature, you either are, or will become a conservationist.

We certainly give them plenty of ammunition to use against us don't we?

But I do love some of the terms they made up and use them all the time since I first saw that site: I'ma take my ThrillCraft out to the Abusement Park and do some Wreckreation. Hell Yeah! :firedevil

Having just watched the entire video, I don't know what I can say.
One picture was of a private motorcycle park. Many of the pictures where
of the sand dunes that are self regenerating.
The numbers used and quoted where obscure.
No mention of percentages of public land that are closed to us, no
mention of areas designated for our usage..

Propaganda....

Well said, and all too true.

enviromentalists need to pick their battles. whats worse, some jeepers driving in the sand, or the enviromental shit storm that goes on in the cities and industrial centers?
who really thinks tire tracks in open desert is the worst form of human impact? what about the reprocusions from the manufacture of the vehicle itself?

or maybe theyre trying to pick a fight with a small secluded industry that has zero representation in common media?

if a class 1 car doesnt get you stiff, you have a problem

fsck it, get some while you can!
